    86 GLH-T sundial project

I got this 86 GLH-T from a friend 6 or so years ago. It was a Mn. car that moved to Texas in the early 90's and was chased out of Texas by emissions laws around about 2001 or 02. It then passed ownership through a couple of friends and ended up with me back in Mn.. Hasnt been on the road since 06 cause of various things mostly wireing. It did run strong but was still a T-1 car. I will have pics soon. I have been slowly hoarding some real awesome parts and its just about time to assemble. I only need a few more pieces. Would love to drive to SDAC this summer. We will see how optimistic that is but since its only 400 miles away if i'm ever gonna drive to one this is it. Here is my list of parts so far
    86 GLH-T
    Daytona intercooler and radiator assembly
Daytona turbo Z T-2 motor wiring harness
Garrett turbo, to3 with 50 trim to4 compressor wheel
    Shelby 2 piece intake
    Shelby valve cover
Car has full 3 inch exhaust except stock at swingvalve.
89 555 trans with shifter and 1 of cables.
    T.U. GLHS stage II calibration
    +40 injectors
Big Holley fuel pump (255 lph???)
    Adj fuel pressure reg.
86 2.2 in it or a 89 2.5 not sure what i want to use. Obviously need dif. cal. with 2.5 but would only need forged pistons and headstuds for higher boost levels. 2.5 is currently in a Lebaron conv. that is very sellable( somewhere around 1000 bucks) and could fund a lot of other things. Its a awesome running turbo motor i'm worried would come back to haunt me once i sold it. Have to cross that bridge soon.

    Parts i need befor assembling
A.T.P. 3 inch swingvalve and downpipe
Clutch-probly go cheap with a t-3 pressue plate, t-2 clutch disc from Cindy at FWD
Braided steel oil and coolant lines for turbo
    2nd cable for shifter

    Parts down the road
    Some kind of BOV
Suspension- at least new Monroe struts and shocks but would love Koni's$$$$$$
    Big brake junkyard conversion.
    Nicer adjustable fuel press regulator

I cant run too much boost yet and i might have some overkill in some area's but i hate buying twice and i'm planning/dreaming of high boost someday. Also and this is HUGE i have one of the Turbo Dodge godfathers living about 10 blocks from my house with imense usefull knowledge. Think over-restored 86 GLHS. Now i just need a couple parts and a lot of motivation.

Thanks for the support. Probly need a couple kicks in the a-- from you guys down the road. Here is some boring pics of stuff. Also good news i decided to give up on a 10 year Jeep CJ project and listed it on the C-L and my inbox is blowing up so its looking pretty good for my swingvalve, turbo lines, and clutch.

Not much actual wrenching progress yet but went junkin and got a smec and wireing harness out of a 88 Lebaron turbo. Smec will be used for the swap of the Omni's 2.2 into the 89 Lebaron. Wireing harness used to convert Omni's electronics to 88-89 specs. Kind of intimidateing thinking about what i have to do but jumping in head first baby! Swingvalve and clutch coming soon. Should start yankin, and swapping in the next week.

Pulled Omni motor/trans last night. Totally underestamated time on that and almost all the wires were already disconected. Man this car has had a tough life. Core support?? is a bit bent/tweaked. I was glad to see a 8 bolt flywheel when i pulled the tranny. With this cars history i new there was a chance of a 85 motor in it. Dreading the Lebaron pull but hopefully lessons learned in the first.

Hopefully this is not the last pic of a perfectly working Lebaron. Spirit is my daily driver, check out the cold air intake i rigged up. I accidently broke my t-2 airbox trying to remove it in cold weather (never said i was smart). I used a cut up Apexi cold air intake off a Cavalier a bud gave me and some decently bent up 2 and 1/4 tubeing. Wish the red matched better. Ignor the lack of pcv, i fixed that and rerouted the smaller hoseing. Makes some distinct intake noise now, and feels like it free'd up some hp, especially midrange. Might be a week or so befor my next pull. Later

Good news, bad news. Lebaron engine pull is ahead of sched.. Axles and eng. mounts left to remove and will be out probably sometime monday. Turbo i bought used is junk (shocker). Oh well i'm not the first and probably wont be the last one to buy a piece of s--t. I have a few stockers plus the one i swapped onto my Spirit and i'm still going ahead with the 3 inch ATP swingvalve so lag should be pretty non-exsistant. All in all it could be worse. Imagine if God never invented the Mopar Turbo, we might all be building Civic's!

Got the Lebaron motor out and on a stand. Didnt have any help so pulled it myself, hopefully wont ever need to do that again. Since i was alone i had to use the cherry picker to pull the hood also. Other than atf4 all over the floor everything went well. Notice the bird crap all over the one engine stand.

Thanks, i'm about to get real busy at my work so it will probably take another week or so to swap manifolds and essentials and get the Lebaron back together and sellable. Hopefully by mid April the Omni will be back together mechanicaly. Then the rewireing starts. Honestly thats what has me worried the most. Big job to tackle but the wiring in it is such a mess that it needs major work anyways so might as well do it right.

No major progress since last week except both engines are bare longblocks now. Broke a exhaust stud on the 2.5 so looking for a small pallet to transport entire engine in the back of a pickup to fab shop so they can weld a nut on the broke exhaust stud to remove. Would love to not pull the head but we'll see. On another note Chris's smoking turbo article on the main page, my junk used turbo's gasket looks just like the middle one. I will never buy a used turbo without dissassembling it befor hand. You learn through your mistakes, unfortunatly some cost more than others.

Check this out, my ATP 3 inch swingvalve with a little clearance work done by T.N. himself. Talk about a straight shot out. Going to be able to use exhaust studs instead of bolts also. Glad i was talked out of ordering a downpipe now seeing how its going to need to snake a bit. Wonder if my p.s. pump will be affected? Also the oil and coolant lines i will be useing, thanks a ton to Todd for ordering and building them for me, i already owe him huge for this project. Click image for larger version.

On a different note what do you guys think about painting my Shelby valve cover and two piece intake red to match my Omni. I'm two cheap to powder coat right now so i'm thinking about a rustoleum hammered finish. Will this be too much red or should they be left black?

I like the intake and VC stock looking unless you're really going all out with the car. I really enjoyed Franzen's VC and two piece in his CSX last year though. I thought it looked great.
