    Mini/High Torque Starter Options...?

Picked up an equal length header recently, and am having a few issues getting it to fit in a 91 R/T. First problem I had was it hit the PS pump / serp. tensioner bracket. No problem, took it out and trimmed it a bit so it would clear. Tried to mock up the header again, and now its hitting the starter. Not sure how the original designer of this thing got around that. Is there a low profile/high torque starter option for the 2.2's? I really want to use this header, but am stuck with this starter problem. I can't just relocate or trim the starter. Anyway any input would be cool. Thanks.

How close is it? I know this may sound sort of dumb but could it be that this was fabricated without a complete mock-up? If that was the case, you might be SOL.

Its not very close. The flange seems to hit as well as cyl 4 pipe. If it was a hair off id just massage it into place. Strange part is, it looks
like it has been ran before. Im just trying to figure out what the builder did for a starter because it wasn't the stocker. Or if it was, it was not in the factory location.

could it have been for another application and the flange was hacked off and the TIII one welded on? It could have been run in its original application. Maybe some pics?

There is a Nippendenso starter that later 2.2/2.5L's ran. My wife's '94 Spirit had one. This starter may help the situation.

Is this a high torque starter compared to the older modles???? My starter is getting weak and i would rather replace it with a better starter while iam in there

I suppose it could be for something else with a TIII flange welded on, but it doesn't look hacked together. I'll post a couple pics this evening.

Sell it to me, its too much hassle making it fit,

Find the Nippo starter, it was an option and some earlier cars came with it. Its a high torque gear reduction starter, best one they made,

Here are a couple pics of the header in question:

I've never had a good look at the starter on these cars, but is it possible to relocate the solenoid? I think that is what the header is hitting, and if I could move it, problem solved.

The Nippo moves the solenoid down and to the side.

Seriously, just sell it to me,

I've gone too far to turn back now! But if I can't get it to work I'll let you know. Trying to get this thing running for Mopars at the Strip next month!

Got a source for the Nippo starter? Or just try the junk yard and hope to get lucky?
