Does your car sound like there's a blow dryer under the hood?

I have a van and ever since I installed a FMIC and piping whenever the turbo is spooled at all it sound like there is a blow dryer running under my hood. It is really loud and i was wondering if there is anything to make it quieter? I have a triple core stocker IC that enters and exits out the same side, but it sounded similar with a powerstroke IC.

Could the filter to turbo pipe cause any of the noise?


Thanks for any help to quiet this down. I want to hear the exhaust sound and turbo whine not the air moving around.

+2, its probably the turbo inlet noise your hearing, I personally love it, if you don't, try to rig up the old air box or use a TII airbox.

I would do a boost leak check. Ive had that sound turn out to be a boost leak before.

I did go to an open element at the same time and that could be it I like the sound of others but honestly mine sounds like something is wrong with my car! maybe I will try a different tubing from the filter to turbo cause rightnow part of it is PVC and the filter is in a bad place right between the radiator and block. I want to move my battery and put it there maybe it's time to get around to that

Yeah you'll hear the air sucking in if you have an open element instead of a closed airbox. It could also be a boost leak at one or more of the intercooler pipe connections.

Could be the way you've got the piping, intake and filter box fastened down that's making it louder. Could try things like rubber grommets under any clamps that are screwed to the body anywhere, or silicone hose slid over any clamps and brackets. Even some N/A cars have rubber grommets under the airbox holddowns so they don't transfer induction noise through the body.

Sounds normal to me, but depending on how bad it is like the others said it could be a boost leak. I hear the turbo spool or "whistle" in the exhaust and then it starts to hiss or "suck" really loud as it gets more into boost and I have no boost leaks.

I could do that give me a week, i broke the axle shifting gears and next week is spring break at school so i should get some time.
