Need Rear Bumper For My GLHS Charger

Rear bumper plastic cover needed for my 87 GLHS Charger.

If you look at the picture it's doing the wave from the license plate to beneath the right side tail-light from sitting out in the sun.

If a paint/bodywork person on here has any suggestions on how I can fix it please chime in.

    Thanks

Looks about the same condition as mine. You could try redoing the brackets underneath with some metal to support the inside edge of the bumper (an easy job), but the flex material has stretched so it still wouldn't be perfect.

Best thing is to just find a bumper from a colder state - my SC has been here since new, its rusty but the back bumper is perfect Maybe in time someone will start making these in fibreglass, it would be easier to get a good finish with!

I can't recall seeing any that didn't have a little wave to them.

Sorry, I just figured it was heat related, especially since seeing another Brit SC that had a good back bumper ... nothing ever got baked in the sun here, lol.

You’re exactly right about it being heat related. Before I bought it off my friend it did bake out in the sun at my friends shop and that’s what caused the waves in the bumper. My friend said when he purchased it; no waves were in the bumper. Come to think about it the car was in a perfect location to get baked because the sun was always behind the rear end heating it up..lol

My friend that painted my car says there is no way to permanently fix the dreaded Shelby Charger rear bumper wave. I just bought one that wasn't near as bad as my original. I think some were wavy when new.

If I don't find a "waveless" bumper, I will have the original bumper painted and make sure the left side matches the right...Can we say heat gun!

There is a plastic filler piece that mounts on top of the bumper reinforcement beneath the cover. If that's missing it makes them a lot more likely to warp.

However, I've seen warped covers on cars that still had this filler piece in place, but not as bad as without it.
