Which 5 speed comes in those....tough enough for every weekend beating on at the drags? AC work or present? Head gaskets ever been replaced?

Angelo, a543. Which would be the 3.0 bellhousing bolt pattern of the a523. Same internals.

How strong...explodeble like the 11 5 speeds that were put into Matchbox in the first 100,000 miles?

Thinking of getting a nicer car for bracket racing in the United Manual Transmission Racers series instead of my rusted out Neon....might have to pass unless it gets a 555 or 568...which of those are stronger?

Re: 1993 Dodge Daytona Iroc 3.0 V6 with rare 5 speed manual.

The A543 of that vintage is VERY close in toughness to the A568. The gear tooth pitch is so close it's hard to tell them apart. Brent (Ondonti) has been beating the living crap out of a mostly stock one for years (has an OBX in it). I know he has an intermediate shaft race walk off a little, just like an A568, but we fixed that.

Seriously, if you break an A543 on a stock engine with anything less than a bad synchro or throwing the diff pin, there's something else going on. That's a tough tranny!

It's very close to the same transmission that people here run 10s with. At some point you will have the same issues of bearing surface problems by the pinion gear and bearing plate flex at the other end, but for a stock car i would consider it basically bulletproof.

How many spiders does the diff have....or is the diff built up compared to the trans that used to be in Matchbox back in the 1980s?

Re: 1993 Dodge Daytona Iroc 3.0 V6 with rare 5 speed manual.

It's a 2-spider diff, just like any A520/A523 or automatic tranny. Not really that big a deal as long as you aren't doing 1-wheel-peel's all the time. I don't know about the rules concerning this in the class you run, but swap an OBX in and never worry about it again. Or, put some retainer clips on it, balance the traction in the front (I assume you would anyway) and call it a day.

Seriously, the A543 is a GOOD transmission.

I have ran 12.2@122 on the 543 in my 3.5l Shadow and 18psi boost. The 543 is strong.

I know there's several 13 second 3.0's and then you have Brent who was pumping over 500hp through one and beating the living snot out of it. I think that's the one we ended up fixing the intermediate shaft bearing race...but that issue seems like it's mostly limited to higher power cars.

Re: 1993 Dodge Daytona Iroc 3.0 V6 with rare 5 speed manual.

The body of that IROC seems a ton better than my 95 Neon, but I would HATE to start all over on another car trying to make it consistent for bracket racing. It would be a great car as a daily driver, but my cars serve double duty. The 94 3.0 Duster I had NEVER got consistent. I was using it while Matchbox waited for almost 5 years for another motor and trans and I lacked the money to get it running due to a divorce. A rural router had his 235,000 mini van T-boned mid 2006 and gave me the freshly rebuilt (only the case was retained) automatic and his TB 2.5...drove it to Topeka...changed the jets in the carb 11 times and won the combo SRT race/SDAC event, and gamblers. Every 10,000 miles Brad was changing pistons and wrist pins, then in went a low mileage 94 CB 2.5...dejetted primary side once and the rest is history. My SOHC Neon runs high 15s launching at only 3900 rpm...5500 rpm shifts, and used to get 43 mpg at 55 BEFORE I gutted it...now its down to 2180 and STILL has AC and cruise. Matchbox gets 16 around town and 22 at 55...and 1600 rpm is 31 mph...only 1890 lbs. By contrast, my 10.5 second at 130 mph 99 Z28 (slicks), 10.78 at 128 DOTS, 3490 lbs, 1600 rpm is 63 mph gets 18 around town and 28 at 55! ANYHOW...getting off base about this thread. BUMP for what could be a GREAT daily!
