no way would I ever own an xc90. I work on them for a living! Ive contemplated a conversion van, but when your used to 20+ mpg the thought of 10-14 really sucks. I bought a lexus es 300 that needs head gaskets. Ill get that done this weekend-week and see how that treats me for a little while until I stumble into something that fits my needs better.

I was thinking about those when I was shopping cheap 3rd row stuff but then got a mini. I limited my search to FWD 2.5 ones tho... never found a good deal. What goes out on the XC90's you work on?? The transmissions?

transmissions, tons of oil leaks, bent valves but that's simply due to lack of maintence on most. control arm bushings and ball joints. I hate the cheap Volvo plastic interiors too. they are loud.

Yah, I was implying a diesel one, hard to find though.

BTW if your thoughts turn to crew cab trucks, be very very wary of half tons. The reason is, they can have very low available payload, some configurations under 1000lb, which basically means, passengers OR towing, not both, even if they are rated for 8 or 10 thousand pounds, no spring travel left for the hitch weight. Have to have very specific specs in a crew cab or extended cab half ton that will let you fill the cab AND tow, payload needs to be up in the mid 2000s. This is often the rugged sounding models like Laramie, Laredo, Bighorn etc, that are gussied up everywhere, adding weight, but without the right HD packages, most of the capacity is already used up. This can be true even with a factory or dealer tow package, which is probably just hitch and wiring, tranny cooler and maybe a brake controller, doesn't guarantee increased payload, they don't quite lie through their teeth on the rating, 'coz yes maybe you can tow 8000 with a trailer that only needs 10% hitch weight, and the truck is completely empty apart from a driver weighing less than 200lb... but who really wants to use it like that. With the 10:1 hitch weight thing, you lose 1000lb of towing for every 100lb you have in the truck. Want a cap on the bed? 300lb cap means 3000lb less towing. Of all the people buying a crew cab or extended cab half ton for towing a trailer with the fam, only maybe 10% knew what they were doing, so 90% of them have been running the thing overweight, and the 10% ordered with the HD suspensions are hard to find.

I was checking out this thread again to get me psyched up for getting my van back on the road, and then I saw the bad news.
    Total bummer but completely understandable.
