    Commonblock Oil Pan Removal

Maybe I'm stupid, but I can't figure out how to get the oil pan off of my 89 commonblock with the motor in the car. I took all of the bolts out, and the pan dropped down a bit; however the the oil pan hits the water pump. It hits one of the bolts on the water pump that holds it together. You can move the pan around, but it is snug at that point. The lip of the pan(where the bolts go through the pan) is sandwhiched between the flange on the water pump and the block.

i had the same problem with my 2.2. What I had to do was remove the intermediate shaft bracket which really isn't that hard.

Thanks. I got it off today. Ended up unbolting the alternator bracket and taking off the water pump. Wish I would have checked for a reply before I ripped that stuff off.
