Make sure you clean the oil passages real good witth compressed air and pipe cleaners after you get the crank back from the machine shop.

i think it was a bad rod to begin with. didnt plastigauge it . and didnt have the rods resized, lesson well learned. this time going threw it with a fine tooth comb. dont mind tearing it down. but id like to at least get a couple years out of it lol

While getting the rods redone, throw in some ARP's.b

Port the oil pump hole too.

Yes, brake cleaner and compressed air works great but usually what I do is use soap and water, and also similiar chemicals to Castrol Supercleans, clean and blow it out, finish off with Brake cleaner. Maybe its overkill but its damn clean. You can also have the machine shop hot tank it too.

I would reuse the rings, so if you do, skip the hot tank.

how do you like to drive? ive had to many problems taking turns to fast, and just a second of losing oil pressure would kill my bearings, i run baffled 2.5 deep pans now...

and if you decide on arp bolts (very good idea) then have the machinist torque, remove then re-torque like 5 times (or something like that) before he resizes the rods.

Re: need advice on a rebuild( 2.2)

I reused my rings, had about 25-30k miles on them, didn't hone. Beat on it every day and doesn't smoke, I've put another 5-6k miles on them since the reassembly. I do get a bit of oil in the IC pipes though, however I am running a TBI cover which may not have enough baffling for a turbo car.

Incidently I had a rod bearing issue also, #3 IIRC. Was wore down to the copper, other 3 looked fine. Not sure what caused it, the rod had a black burn line around the inside under the bearing, in the middle. I replaced that rod w/ a good one ( had the machine shop check the big end and verify roundness). I do drive like bandit though
