    VNT to normal turbo

With all the variables, I dont really know where to start. I have a csx and I want to run a non vnt turbo. Can this be done? I will be pulling the head very soon to do a head gasket for sure and may end up having to get a new head. I overheated the engine and bad things happend. Since the head will be off I figured it would be the best time to look into the idea of losing the vnt.

So what do I need to know?

    Thanks for any help,
    Chris

Why do you want to lose the VNT?

You shouldn't need much, TII turbo, oil/coolant lines, maybe the J tube if its not intercooled, a non VNT computer or if you don't care about the CEL, then leave it.

I really dont but I just feel lacking when I pop the hood and I cant alter anything for fear of f'ng it up and overboosting like a sob. I already have boost creep like no other, I have no cat or muffler, it dumps at the rear tire. And it dosnt instant spool like everyone talks, so the best part of the car isnt there for me.

So will a t2 turbo bolt to my existing manifold?

Another question that I may need to know, As stated I overheated the car and am worried about the head being cracked. I will have my machinist dip it to check it out. If it is indeed cracked, I have another cylinder head that I pulled off a 91' shadow es turbo. Its a 782 casting, Are these heads the same as what came on my csx. Same sized valves and ports and such? And could just be swapped over.

Yes, it will bolt to your manifold, all the 8 valve ones are virtually identical except log engines, they don't have the manifold cut out to clear the one piece.

Yes, all turbo swirl/782 heads are the same, just be aware that cracks between the valves, ie the same cylinder, from seat to seat, is 100% normal.

Oh, and if you use the VNT computer, you'll need to use an MBC or EBC to control boost.

If it isnt spooling right then your vacuum is already messed up.

I think you can run a manual boost controller on a VNT, forgot how though. Basically you set it to go from full closed to full open (or the other way?) at a certain psi.

Yeah, I had issues with vacuum in the past, so I went through and replaced all that I could with new hose. Obviously the best option is a vacuum block. That factory four way junction blows. I have read on another site that an aquarium valve can be used to bleed off some vac.

You cant run the VNT manifold. Well I guess you could, but the top two holes don't have studs, they are open holes. I did this to my CSX years ago. Changed the water and oil lines, the turbo and exhaust mani, and added a MBC for boost control. Had no problems or CEL's. I am not sure why a T2 in place of a VNT would throw a CEL.

    Re: VNT to normal turbo

You would just through-bolt the holes.

A guess a guy could, but I have a big enough parts stash I just grabbed a T2 mani.
