    89 520/555 synchro kit used with 523/568

    Any reason why I couldnt use the bearing/synchro kit for the 89 520/555 in place of the much more costly version for the 523/568 ? The front intermediate shaft bearing & race, oil slinger and shift fork pads are the only difference that I can tell between the two kits and I have those parts taken care of already through other means.

    I really only need the snychro rings and $225 for the 520 kit vs $400+ for the 523 version is talking to me...

    There is no reason why you can't as you've addressed the difference's, so knock yourself out.

    The blocker rings are the same for all of them??

    I'm about 99% sure they are, the parts book says they are the same but I just dont want this to be one of those 'gotcha' things after ordering more parts that cannot be returned.

    Speed rings are the same. Across all models, 3/4 are the same 87-93 and 1/2 are the same 87-88 and 89-93. Just make sure the 89' kit really includes the 89+ parts. I'm honestly surprised you even need the 1-2 rings and frictions, they usually last for quite a long time, 3/4 are the ones that wear due to their material.

    Thank you for the confirmation.

    I dont think the 1-2 rings need to be replaced (and for this 568 I'm not replacing them) but on my better condition/original transmission (3.77 523) I want to replace them to make the transmission as fresh and new as possible.
