PT lifters - stuck washers in head.

Trying to get the washers out of the head I just bought. There is one in each lifter hole. I was able to get one out, but the others are pretty dang well stuck in there.

Any idea? Was hoping to get my head together today

I'm at my shop now (Mechanic, I got all the tools :heybaby: ) and I'm afraid I'm going to gouge the sh*t ouf the head if I keep at it with a pick. Magnet won't do anything cause theyre stuck pretty well in there.

I'm afraid to warm up the head with the torch

Couldn't, there's no way to push them out from the back side, they must be pried or pulled out

Nope! I realized even if I put some heat there it wasn't anywhere near anything that could be warped and disturb the head flatness anywhere. I made sure the lifters move up and down freely afterwards, and they do.

I meant break open the lifter bores so you could get to them, silly.

Get a used punch, make sure one end is mushroomed up. Make sure you can barely fit the center hole of the washer with the punch, then just use it to pry it out from the center hole.

    Worked very well for me.

What's the theory on the washers needing to be so tight fitting? I don't get it.

Re: PT lifters - stuck washers in head.

Supposedly they just fall right in, but I suspect from getting hammered on by the lifter it just pounded itself flat a bit.
