Rotating it will alter the ignition timing and cause you to have problems. There should be a bracket which bolts to the block and holds the distributor in place.

If you mean the reluctor ring is loose on the plastic or shaft, then yeah, it can cause alot of issues. Now if you can move the rotor either way, that means either the drive pins are worn, the drive housing is worn or the retaining pin and if those are ok, then check your int shaft for worn teeth.

No, the int shaft lubed up with no oil pump should be easy to turn, if not, its going to chew up the bearings right away.

he said, there is 1/8" play in the distributor shaft when grabbing the rotor and turning it with your fingers.....not that hard to understand....

Reread the info which was posted at the time I responded and tell me that you can still make that connection. If you can, you are better than I. I used the information he provided in an attempt to help him out. Reading his posts I believe it natural to think that his distributor was attached to the block when he was wiggling it.

If he weren't from Quebec I would have asked for him to use more conventional grammar etc. As he is, I simply do my best. Moreover, not knowing the OP from Adam I'm at a loss as to how he or any logical human being could be offended by my posts.

No problem. We have several French speaking and Spanish speaking members of the board. It's not a big deal at all.
