As far as suspension I have 350# coil overs in the rear and 350# in the front, stock swaybar in front and aftermarket in the rear. And you are very right about the difference in handling between old and '88 suspension. There is kit that improves the pre-'88 suspension to work just like the '88. Next on my list is that kit and a set of custom fully adjustable swaybars. Right know I'm compensating by setting the alignment very aggressive and using the obviously different front and rear wheel diameter, and because of the greater leverage of the rear diameter I have to install a proportioning valve to direct more brake fluid pressure to the rears to balance the breaking. I have bigger brakes in the front (rear vented rotors from the Lebaron GTC and Cadillac calipers) works pretty good. My other issue is the diff, I'm leaning torwards a welded diff. It's a working progress. The cooling is being improved by using Rattlesnake's radiator and fan combo and by making a big opening on the hood. It's also being lightened, as you can see I have my hands full. Right now I'm waiting for the spring to take it the road course in SC to get some seat time. I'll keep you updated, meantime I let you hear the the stock vs upgraded motor at the same exact place, notice that I didn't have to shift to 4th to keep it going with the upgraded motor. I get a lot of complements on the sound!
Awesome, sounds like she's going to corner on rails, I've heard about the kits to upgrade to the 88 stuff, just a shame GM pulled the plug after they redid it,

Yeah, I worked at the dealer when Fiero's were abound so I know them inside and out, I still like them and love the 2.8 exhaust sound.

Have you figured out anyway to tighten up the shifter, they are pretty sloppy?

I know everyone goes 3.8, but you gotta admit, small package, light, high hp, wicked sound,

Either way, your going to be flying in this, look forward to every update,

I like the 3.9 swap that some are looking at. Flows soo much better than stock 2.8/3.1. Your out producing the 3.8 and close to the SCed in hp. Do some work to the heads and intake. Plus it fits better than the 3.8.
Anyway, it sounds awesome. The exhaust is almost F-1 like. The Gen II 2.8/3.1 do have the better bottom end, but both of the 2.8's I had took a beating and kept asking for more, and they were 81 models.
I was going to ask about the clutch too as i saw you blip the throttle in the first one to match rpms. Now I know...lol. I like it.

Re: I went from this, to this!

I'm going to stay with this one for now and the 3.4 will follow. Everything is not big numbers for me anymore. My friend in his Z06 can't keep up with me through that turn in the video and when we go "high speed cruising" through some windy roads is the same story and when he takes the lead he can't shake me off. I know he doesn't want to crash his car and I don't want to crash mine either so we don't over do it. I've driven his Z06, and in this turn in the video for example, I had to watch my entry speed and apply the power a little later almost at a straight angle. Of course, one of the reasons is because the Z06 torque can make you loose that rear in a heartbeat. As with the Fiero I just shift to the right gear and I'm on the power right before entering and throughout the entire corner into the straight. The Fiero behavior through corners is very similar not to say "exactly" like a go-kart. That's why a lot of people refer to them as oversize go-karts. With Rattlesnake I could only managed 65mph through that corner and it was hair raising but right on the hump I was doing about 125mph. On the Fiero 85mph through that corner feels effortless and easy, and by the hump I believe I'm breaking the 100mph. I'm eager to take it the the track because there I can drive it more on the edge.

I wasn't trying to convince you of the 3.9. Besides, the 3.4 is damn near a bolt in with almost no mods (compared to the 3.5/3.9). You know more about them than I do. I like it a lot. Too much torque can be a bad thing.

Hummmm? I was thinking more like a TM 2.5L........T68 48ar stage VI 35psi, Megasquirt and putting Viper emblems front and rear and the "Handling by Lotus" emblems on the sides. People probably laugh at it like they laughed at Rattlesnake.

I could not believe how mine was running. When I took it apart the all the main bearings and rod bearings were on the cooper layer. Now I have the upgraded crank with the oil grooves.

id stay away from 3400 unless you like bad upperend gaskets leaking coolant onto your cam lobes, we do more 3.4 upper ends than anything ive ever seen, that and taurus/sable rears struts and springs

The newer gaskets take care of most of this. That and using the yellow or green coolant instead of the Dexcool. I know, 5 yrs at GM.

You are absolutely right! Those are the 3100, 3400 and event the 3800 with the phenolic upper intake. I did so many myself that those where the easiest $700 job I've ever made.

Not to take this too far off track, but you liked the Fiero more than the SHO? Most SHO guys are very die hard.

How 'bout hangin a turbo on one of those "Iron Dukes?"

"The sole condition which is required in order to succeed in centralizing the supreme power in a democratic community, is to love equality, or to get men to believe you love it. Thus the science of despotism, which was once so complex is simplified, and reduced . . . . to a single principle."

"One of the methods used by statists to destroy capitalism consists in establishing controls that tie a given industry hand and foot, making it unable to solve its problems, then declaring that freedom has failed and stronger controls are necessary."

"To evolve, you don't need a Constitution. All you need is a legislature and a ballot box . . . . things will evolve as much as you want. All of these changes can come about democratically; you don't need a Constitution to do that and it's not the function of a Constitution to do that."

I think you mean an iron dook. I had nothing but trouble with every one of them I ever owned. I used to pull a bunch of duke heads when I worked at a salvage yard, and it seemed like most of them had cracked heads. I'm not sure if they are like the mopar heads where the cracks might not mean its bad but we had a policy to never sell a head with cracks.

A W41 HO quad 4 would be interesting...

There was an unreleased turbo variant, dunno if there's enough detail on that to replicate it, or whether it was a bunch of fail.

Edit: but then there's finding one. One of the few GMs I'd have as a keeper* is an Old Acheiva SCX with one of those in, or a 442 Calais... btw they had an LSD in, will have to look at that sometime...

(* Yeah I'd like a fiero too, or anything with a buick 3.8 or the mid 90s fullsize caprice/roadmaster/fleetwood with the LS motor.)

I like 3.0s ... so??? ... stop looking at me like I've got two heads!
