I went from this, to this!

I miss its brute power and sound, also miss the people's faces when they saw this white brick smoke their high dollar cars. As a road course car it was a handful, but in the straights, oh my .

This is my ride now, a 1985 Pontiac Fiero 2.8L V6. What it lacks in power it makes up in the handling and low weight . It's nimble, predictable, fast, well this one is a legal go-kart. I rebuilt the engine and did some upgrades, some of those upgrades are custom pieces of my own design. I dynoed the stock engine before the rebuilt and it netted 109whp @ 4500rpm. After my magic it dynoed 155whp @ 6000rpm running pig rich. The stock engine dyno result showed 80whp and w70ft/lbs @ 6000rpm. So the gain at 6000rpm was a whopping 75whp and 65wft/lbs of torque , no turbo here. I'm currently working on the custom chip, I think another 10 or 20whp can be squeezed with the proper afr. I'm not planning to turbo it but I have a small block Chevy that I built waiting on an engine stand if needed in the future. I just wanted to add a little more kick on the engine, nothing like my 425whp Rattlesnake.

I'm currently working in shortening the runners for more high rpm hp.

Good to see you on here. Thanks for the update on what you're up to.

To be honest I figured you would have picked up a Porsche.

But I'll be around if you guys need me for any question, advice or anything you may need. That Turbo Mopar of mine left me with that 1st impression that is very difficult to replace and this forum is the best I've been in, its like a family.

I take it you already did a cam with it too? Did you swap to aluminum heads or are they still the iron ones?

Personally, I'd look at getting a spacer in there so there's not so much of a hairpin bend between the lower and upper, or should I say, other lower welded to a plenum.

That is what the shorter version will do, it's going to be about the same height but the runner bolts will be closer to the box, thus shortening the path of airflow. Look at this before and after porting, I angle ported both halves to straighten airflow a bit. I'm also have another on the works with Hayabusa individual throttle bodies.

Nice. Personally I like the iron heads. They don't have the head gasket issues the later ones can have. That is some good output from it. I was going to build a 3.1 for the wifes old beretta, but my father got mad at me and junked the block before I could do it. Granted this was 19 yrs ago....lol.

nice to see someone working over the 2.8...

But why not just slam a Series II supercharged in there?

Re: I went from this, to this!

Nice Rolando but I wouldn't put a V8 in there, I'd to as suggested, 3.8 Supercharged-light and powerful and not much bigger than the 2.8, which if you kept, I'd go 3.4.

What did you do for the suspension, the pre 88 stuff stucks, its very darty/twitchy but I've been told there are parts to fix it and make it handle like the 88's, which if you've driven yours then the 88, you'd shitt your pants on how bad yours is, :

Can't wait to see the updates.

Everyone's done a V8 too. There is a reason they go 3.8, I already mentioned it, pfffffffffft.

Re: I went from this, to this!

Hello Simon! black86glh nail it, everybody has the 3800 supercharged engine. I really like the 60 degrees iron head engines and the upgrading of the 2.8 performance is to implemented in the 3.4. As far as suspension I have 350# coil overs in the rear and 350# in the front, stock swaybar in front and aftermarket in the rear. And you are very right about the difference in handling between old and '88 suspension. There is kit that improves the pre-'88 suspension to work just like the '88. Next on my list is that kit and a set of custom fully adjustable swaybars. Right know I'm compensating by setting the alignment very aggressive and using the obviously different front and rear wheel diameter, and because of the greater leverage of the rear diameter I have to install a proportioning valve to direct more brake fluid pressure to the rears to balance the breaking. I have bigger brakes in the front (rear vented rotors from the Lebaron GTC and Cadillac calipers) works pretty good. My other issue is the diff, I'm leaning torwards a welded diff. It's a working progress. The cooling is being improved by using Rattlesnake's radiator and fan combo and by making a big opening on the hood. It's also being lightened, as you can see I have my hands full. Right now I'm waiting for the spring to take it the road course in SC to get some seat time. I'll keep you updated, meantime I let you hear the the stock vs upgraded motor at the same exact place, notice that I didn't have to shift to 4th to keep it going with the upgraded motor. I get a lot of complements on the sound!

Awesome, sounds like she's going to corner on rails, I've heard about the kits to upgrade to the 88 stuff, just a shame GM pulled the plug after they redid it,

Yeah, I worked at the dealer when Fiero's were abound so I know them inside and out, I still like them and love the 2.8 exhaust sound.

Have you figured out anyway to tighten up the shifter, they are pretty sloppy?

I know everyone goes 3.8, but you gotta admit, small package, light, high hp, wicked sound,

Either way, your going to be flying in this, look forward to every update,

Hummmm? I was thinking more like a TM 2.5L........T68 48ar stage VI 35psi, Megasquirt and putting Viper emblems front and rear and the "Handling by Lotus" emblems on the sides. People probably laugh at it like they laughed at Rattlesnake.
