its the injector control until that sits on top of the intake. HAve ran into this problem before. I can almost guarantee it. It sits on top of the intake right behind the throttle body. the unit pops out and will reveal pins for each individual injector. I would yank one out of a scrap yard personally as these are pretty pricey. Good Luck

Even when they show good with an injector balance test? He used the scan tool to actuate them.

Yeh, i ran them with the scanner, watched them spray while cranking with the plenum off, actuated them manually with jumpers, and verified that they are getting power and switching ground.

Re: Trouble with an 01 chevy blazer.

just because they spray the initial doesnt mean that they keep spraying after. And just because you actuate with Scan tool doesnt mean that the injection unit is working properly. I still have money that that is your problem.

Are you sure the intake is sealed properly? If its been badly overheated, it could be warped. I would try another cap, I've had bad caps cause the same issue, drove me nuts.

Run the truck with the compression tester hose hooked up with the valve core removed and compare sound/pressure to a known good cylinder. Is the engine used? Did you reuse the old intake?

actually that is a good point you bring up. These motors are notorous for the lower intake gaskets going out due to the plastic gasket. Vigo is this motor leaking coolant down by the lower intake and the head.

Are you aware of the other kind of crossfire that can happen? It's magnetically induced crossfire and happens when a spark wire crosses a neighbour at an angle. The insulation will show no trace of it because the energy is transferred through the magnetic field.

Cured a misfire on my Escort from that...laid all the wires neatly parallel... which lasted all of a month before they started blowing through the insulation and crossfiring that way instead

(Next set of wires I'm gonna use that clip on harness protecter/conduit stuff over the top)

If you use a decent set of wires, you don't need to worry about it,

Re: Trouble with an 01 chevy blazer.

Are you getting P0300 or P0301 and P0302? This may sound dumb, but is it running like it has 2 completely dead cylinders, or is it running ok but CEL on? I had 2003 GMC truck with a 4.8 V8 once that was throwing a P0300. I checked EVERYTHING just like you have and couldn't find anything wrong, turned out some rust built up behind the crank position sensor, pushed it out a little, and was throwing everything off. Cleaned rust, replaced sensor for good measure, and did re-learn procedure. This fixed the P0300.

    What do i win?

Glad you found it, sure it sucks it took you awhile but at least you KNOW what the problem is and I bet next time this happens, you'll know where to look.

For checking spark without a scope, get one of those special tester plugs without the ground electrode or make your own, you can get normal and HEI plugs, I use them all the time to verify coils quickly etc.

Re: Trouble with an 01 chevy blazer.

Nice, so 3 days of diagnostic time @ $100 an hour = $2400 + a new dizzy cap, whereas if you'd just thrown "tuneup" parts at it, it woulda been about $300 in wires, plugs, sensors, filters, gaskets, etc, and $50 worth of labor to put them in.

(This is where you say the bit about precious mineral resources not ending up in a landfill unnecessarily)

Just yanking yer chain, it's annoying when it turns out to be something stupid.

Yeah, I changed the OE one with a Neihoff unit at around 190K, so far so good, and now its got 220K, lol. The OE one still looked good but I decided to change it anyhow. I am bad with maintenance on my wife's 98 Jimmy, I generally give it a once over every December as we use it for road trips so Kamloops once a year. Did the intake at 200K, one waterpump, one set of lower ball joints, redid the diff bearings Dec of 09, tune-up stuff, 2 sets of front brakes, one set of rear brakes, fuel pump and just the other week, it blew the trans front pump seal, so its tranny time. I can't complain, its been an awesome truck.

Edit, it uses Aurora wires so maybe that's the secret?
