Re: Uneven brake pad wear = bad calipers, or ???

Rotors were new a few hundred miles ago and I don't feel any pulsation when applying the brakes. I'm not sure what the typical pad wear in a racing application are, I would think more than this although only using half the pad could wear them quite a bit faster. The car sits outside year round so the brackets could definitely be rusted. I'll pull it apart this week and see if I can get by with sanding them smooth and greasing them up. As far as welding, is there anything special you do or just lay a bead down and then grind to size?

yea i clean it up nice with a grinder. keep the heat kinda high on the welder and the wire speed kinda low to let it burn in nice and deep, grind flat and smooth with the sanding disk. works like a charm

Was trolling the archives to see if anyone has indeed weld repaired the brackets when they get severely grooved and I see some souls who have in this post i'm resurrecting this thread for just a quick technical question to kick around, any preferred type of welding wire to use to match the existing brackets hardness or just use whatever is laying around?
