    .901 piston pin

Ordering Ross pistons for NHRA Omni stocker. Has anyone found a source for .901 pins. Thanks Phil Turner

Any time I ordered pistons the pins were included. I have never ordered from Ross.

.901 not available from Ross. Have found some N/A old stock pins. Don't have anything but turbo engines apart. Anybody compared pins? Going to take a N/A engine apart later today and see.

Ross pistons use spiral locks.... stock pistons use round wire locks. You CANNOT mix/match pins and lock styles.

A pin with a spiral lock has a precision ground end on the pin with a *slight* chamfer. The pin's end will butt up against the lock from time to time so things need to be square there.

But.... a pin that is used with a round wire lock has a *LARGER* chamfer on the ends as the chamfer hits that round wire part... and when it does, the angle on the pin acts as a lever that drives the lock harder into the piston for better security, if you will....

Not only that, the pin ends HAVE to be the exact same lengths, as well....

Now... if you were going to hot-box the pistons/pins (press-fit) then locks are not an issue, and same with pin lengths *as long* as they aren't too long (hit the cylinder walls) or too narrow (not properly sit inside the piston's pin bores)
