1 wire VS 3 wire VS 4 wire O2 sensors, interchangeable??

Are any of the different styles of oxygen sensors interchangeable? The 4 wire O2 sensor on my daytona went and I'm wondering if I can swap in one of the single or 3 wire O2 sensors I have laying around rather than buying another one? I was under the impression that the 3 wire and the 4 wire were both heated, just that the 4 wire had an extra ground? And I thought even the one wire was useable even though it's not heated. I know I should just spring for a new one, but money is money and I have the sensors in the tool box. Anyone???

Yes, they are pretty much compatible, except the connectors are different. The three wire doesn't have a ground circuit for the sensor element so it grounds through the exhaust manifold which isn't as good and could potentially throw the reading off by a tenth of a volt or so. The one wire isn't heated so it takes a bit longer to warm up. You'll have some splicing to do though, since the connectors are different between them.

Well I'll just splice the three wire one in for now, but can't beat that price for a new one, and hey, new is new.

Just swap the connector from the bad 4 wire to the 3 wire. You will have an empty cavity for the sensor ground, which is no big deal. The O2 volts will be a little lower now that the 3 wire grounds through the swing valve....... I would say to get a 4 wire when funds permit...........
