    Replacing Vacuum Hoses

So the idle on my Turismo is still rough and goes up and down constantly. I am finally going to replace the vacuum hoses just to be on the safe side.

    I was looking at these

    My questions are:
    1) Is silicone the way to go with vacuum lines? I know they'll be more durable than rubber, but will they expand or change shape?
    2) Are there any sets of vacuum hoses specific for certain cars? That way I know I get everything I need.

Well, you're going to need more than just one size...

Don't waste your money on silicone stuff. You'll need various sizes of line. Go to a local auto parts store and they have it on a roll. Replace one line at a time so you know where they go, don't rip them all off at once bc there are lots of lines on there and you won't remember where they all go.

I agree with ScottD. Given the price difference, the silicone stuff is primarily for looks, though good silicone hose won't harden like rubber and will probably last longer. It will eventually fail, but the failure mode makes it easy to visually tell when it's time to replace the hose.

If you go with silicone, make sure you good quality silicone hose with a thick wall. I use the HoseTechniques hoses as recommended in this thread:

    http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=904277

I had some left over from my rx7 which is the main reason I used it in my minivan. They don't have the yellow that you were looking for, but Samco does:

    http://www.silhoses.com/products/parts.asp?item=VT

A lot of people recommend viton over silicone, but I don't have any experience with it or know where to get it.

Also, just in case you are tempted, don't use silicone hose for PCV, since the silicone will break done in the presence of oil. Do check/replace your PCV valve/hoses, since that can easily cause idling problems.

silicone is a waste of money, go to the auto parts store its a few cents a foot,
get a few foot of each size, some Ts, Zip ties and plugs.
you should have no problem replace em one at a time
