Lucas Oil Stabilizer as an assembly lube?

I was at the local machine shop today trying to pick up my TIII shortblock for the 86th time and got to talking with the owner about my parts. Lately I have been asking him a lot of questions about engine assembly and he tells me I should use Lucas Oil Stabilizer for assembly lube instead of the Permatex UltraSlick engine assembly lube I was planning to use. What to you guys think?

I don't see an issue. Really, you just need something that won't run off if it sits for a period of time. All I've used is Lubriplate over the years.

Yeah he was actually talking about how he liked it so much better than lubriplate. I have quite a few 0 mile shortblocks here that he has assembled using it so I thought I better ask.

STP additive is a little thicker and also contains ZDDP. Thats what I used before.

I would rather use something with moly in it.

A little thicker? The STP cans I have are thicker than molasses. Far thicker than any gear lube I've ever used. IMO, WAY to thick as an assembly lube.

FWIW, The only assembly lube I have ever used, ever, is a mix of STP and 10w30 motor oil. (about 60%STP-40%10w30)
I have never assembled an engine with anything else so I might not know what I dont know, BUT, I have never had a failure yet, and Ive assembled alot of stuff in the last 40 years with it

I can see that working great being cut 40% with thinner oil. Full strength not for me, although I do use STP full strength to use as a lube for pressing in guides. Best stuff I have found. I have used 50-60 weight race oil with good results several motors sat for a few years too.

I've used Melling Mell-Lube engine assembly lube with good results. Contains tons on ZDDP.

I've used straight STP on car, diesel, industrial engines as well as air compressors without any failures what so ever. Even used it in oil pumps, primes like RIGHT NOW.!!!!
