Thread: National or Timken?

    National or Timken?

So, I was trying to check up and see which wheel bearings I put on the GTC last year. Turns out that I installed National, Part #513075 from Rock Auto. I don't know anything about National. I just went with the more expensive HUB assembly.

I know that Timken is a great brand and was curious what the consensus was? I was thinking about getting some Timken, Part #513075, as spares. I found it interesting that they have the same part numbers.

    TIMKEN HANDS DoWN.

I am NOT a fan of the china-made CRAP that is flooding the market. It's garbage. AFAIK, the Timken bearings cost more, BUT i believe they are still made in the U.S.

Not all, but they still have many plants in the US.

    +1...

I dont work in the parts industry but having bought enough of it all, its all the same to a large degree. Plenty of timken stuff comes from china and taiwan
They even include a disclaimer stating the actual mfg and country of origin may vary.

    Hmmm.....

That's disheartening. I wish I could order some and be sure they were built in the U.S.

    Re: National or Timken?

Just bought a Timken bearing for an 89 Daytona from Rockauto. Box said "Made in USA." Hopefully they weren't referring to the box. I got the rear bearing seal at the same time. It was a Timken but made in Taiwan.

Sadly...(copy /paste from company historical website)

2008:... Timken opens new manufacturing facilities in Chennai, India, and Chengdu, China, to drive the company's strategy of growth in global industrial markets.

    My humble $.02,
Pre 2008 stock is still available ... what the hey, its a T/M
Worth a road trip for non-global Timken.
Convenient? nope. Cost effective? relative. Peace of mind...
    Run Timken

Awesome, I'll have to order another pair as spares. Could you do me a favor and check on another Timken hub assembly for my Stealth next time you're in to work? It's also for the front and the part number is 513133. I want to make sure these are made in the U.S. before I order them.
