    Engine Swap--'91 R/T to '93 TBI 5 Speed

So, I was wandering around a u-pull-it yard today, getting some wheels to mount snow tires on. I thought since I was there I'd wander through the Mopar isle and see what was new and exciting. What should I come across but a Red '91 Spirit R/T! It seems pretty complete, engine/tranny, rad/intercooler, and the computer. It showed 120K on the odometer.

How hard would it be to swap this engine/tranny into my '93 5 speed TBI Spirit? It would seem pretty easy at first thought, but I'm looking for info from the best....you guys! Let me know what you think.

I'd most likely buy the whole drive train and have it gone through before installing. I need to act fast if I'm gonna do it!

ALMOST plug and play. You will need to swap the body harness or get a 92/93 R/T SBEC to make it work correctly.

You should without a doubt grab everything down to the fasteners under the hood. If they let you just take the whole K-frame and all in one piece.....

Yeah, the SBEC for sure, and the under hood wiring harness, after all, the TBI doesn't have 4 injectors or a fuel rail. The wiring stuff is what would make me hesitate on this.

it is plug and play, you just gotta change the engine harness. all 50 pins line up. when I swapped my 90 T1 into my 93 acclaim. I have to move 2 wires. 91 if i remember would be no change for a 93

and unplugging it from under the dash is easy on a AA body. drop the kick panel, get a 5/16th and unscrew the centre nut from the 50 pin connector, (you might have to loosen the fuse box and move it aside)
then just unplug the brake switch and the parking brake switch. pull the boot out from the fire wall and guide the wire/plug out. 10mins.

OK, I checked it out some more, pulled the plugs and turned it over by hand, so it isn't seized up. The plugs looked wet with fuel, but no oil fouling.
I'll be at the yard at 8:30am tomorrow with a guy to help me and a Dodge PU to put it in. I talked to the counter guy and told him what I wanted, and he said around $650 for the motor/trans, axles, wiring harness/computer, rad and intercooler. I'll try to get some pics!

It was still there 1/2 hour before closing time. It's been 40 degrees with a 25 mph wind for a couple days here, not too many in the yard. It's also been "one of those days" for me. My mother in law is in the hospital with heart trouble, and my wife is freaking out. I couldn't get ahold of any body to help either. I'll be there when the door opens in the morning!

    Re: Engine Swap--'91 R/T to '93 TBI 5 Speed

I stayed up late last night reading all I could absorb about the T3 engines. What I found made me decide to pass on the T3. It just sounds like too much of a money pit....$100+ for valve cover gaskets!? $1200 to recondition a good used head. OUCH! Crank and Cam sensors that are not available, head cracking issues, oil pump seizing, cam lobes flaking, $150 for a head gasket, it just goes on and on. Not for me.

The car is located in Portland, Oregon, at a U-Pull-It yard located at 111th and Foster Road. Phone 503-760-5820. Have at it!

god I wish I was closer, You should go pull it and sell the drivetrain, drop it all out though the bottom with the k member and make 1500 i'd say. Not for sure what tIII are worth but gotta be close

Well I called and apparently that yard is self service only so anybody that wants it is going to have to pull it themselves. Just an FYI.
