What happened to the shelby exterior GFX parts and fiber ride wheels? do you have them or are they missing?
what is the wide tire package?

What besides a readily available 225/50/15 tire sticker does a 89 CSX owner have to prove whether it's a wide tire car or not? Not doubting, just curious. Obviously needs the Recaro's The shortened bump stops on the rack is easy to get too. What else? Was there documentation from Whittier what # cars got the wide tires? If so, what are the car #'s?
Todd
I think the VIN list should have the cars detailed out which ones? I'm guessing the rack had the same bump stop, lol, heck the 205's rubbed on the trans So other than wider tires and the decal no differences I know of.
EDIT: I am not even sure about the decal... these cars are made from base models/ES's ... the 87 CSX door tire decal says 14" rims...

Well, I had to post on this one...since my '89 CSX-VNT (#138) was built with both options, and I bought it new off the showroom floor in June of 1990. Here's the kicker: out of the 15 '89' CSX's built with both options (the window sticker and build sheet will show it) the dealership where I got mine, Cumberland Valley Motors in Mechanisburg, Pa. ordered ALL OF THEM with both options. Wait, it gets better. In June of 1990, they still had like 5 of them left! I think they got 6 of them in. So, when I went to buy it, the salesman says..."which one do you want?" I looked over every single one with a fine tooth comb before they took my money. Which, by the way, they discounted the car more than $4000 to move it out the door. And yes, they had to OPEN the door for me because I chose the one on the showroom floor with the lowest miles and least scratches! In fact, they put a small decal on the rear quarter panel window that said "please close door gently." It's still on the car! Only has 773 miles on it. I think mine has the second lowest miles on an '89 CSX-VNT with both options. I think Will McBride in Alaska has one with slightly lower miles, although I might be wrong.
I saw the posting of this car, #238 and almost cried. People really trashed these things like they were disposable. When I would call Tim Pettijon at Shelby Performance to talk about my Shelby cars, he nicknamed me "Mr. Allstate." So, I asked him why. He said "because your Shelby cars fell into good hands, that's why."
Hope someone can save/restore this rare specimen of Shelby history!
Okay so who has this list? Steve @ Shelbymotorsports?
So we have # 237, 138, 216 as Recaro/wide tire cars. What # cars got wiped out? What are the other #'s? I keep hearing about how rare the VNT cars are but I never see any hard #'s on these things. Show me the money... I mean numbers!
Here is the breakdown on the 89 CSX,500 cars produced.
266 -- Stock,no option
215 -- Recaro option only
15 -- Recaro and Wide Tire option
2 -- Wide Tire option only
2 -- Driver Side Recaro Seat, and Pass Side Standard Seat
Dash plaque # 4 50 55 56 132 135 136 138 215 216 225 236 237 258 262 263 and 372 all had the shelby installed wide tire option. That meant removing the front crossmember and installing a special steering rack for the installed 225 50 15 wide tire.
Without the wide tire option listed above, you would receive the standard tire of 195 60 15.
And,your dash plaque number would have to be listed in the line above to have received the wide tire option from shelby.
interesting about the racks.....what makes the racks different though?
The 88 csx had the 205 50 15 on the same size rim, which did not need the large rack.
But the optional tire for the 89 csx was 225 50 15,as stated in the shelby option book. And it needed the larger steering rack to support the 225 tire for a shadow.
