I am new here and just recently got a 1986 daytona turbo z. It is a turbo 1 but has a intercooled log manifold t2 injectors, walbro pump and FWD stage 3 cal. I am hearing a loud ticking sounds from the motor near the transmission. I checked the compression and all cylinders read around 135psi. The plugs look a nice golden brown and aren't wet. I pulled each plug with it running and the sound was still there, there are no metal shavings in the oil. I also have good oil pressure on an aftermarket gauge. The car runs good other then the ticking. It has a solid front motor mount do you think could that be the source of the noise? I also heard that slider cam was noisy, but the guy I bought the car from said it was a 85 block with a 87 head with roller cam. Is there a way other than tearing down the engine to tell what year block, head and cam I have? Do you think its safe to drive like this?
