    AN to factory hard line

How are you guys adapting braided S/S fuel lines to the factory hard fuel lines?

I have the FWDP fuel rails on all three of my cars. I'd like to ditch the NPT fittings and EFI clamps and use AN lines and fittings. As far as I can tell, I'll either have to use some kind of compression fitting with a sealing ferrule, or flare the line and use a tube nut and sleeve? Anybody got pics?

I used a compresson fitting with a sealing ferrule. The problem with flaring the fuel lines for use with AN fittings is that a normal flare is 45 degrees and won't seal completely with an AN fitting. You need to get a 37.5 degree flare kit, and it costs more than just finding the correct fittings.

I also ran a 3/8" aluminum return line, because a 1/4 hard line to -6 AN adapter is non-existant, and I didn't want a lot of couplers cluttering up the lines.

Do you know where to buy the proper compression fitting to adapt to the factory lines? I can't find anything at Summit..

Did you just use a tubing cutter to cut the lip off the factory line so the sealing ferule would go on? Does it need to be reamed out?

I can't find where I got mine now. I got them from www.anfittings.com ...but now that site doesn't exist, so I don't know what to tell you. I guess search around on google for someplace that sells them.

To get the ferule on, I had to cut the lip off the factory line. I don't know about reaming it out. I just slid the compression fitting on and tightened it down.

You could get an AN to pipe fitting, then put a hose barb on the end of the an fitting and run high pressure fuel injector hose similar to the factory.

Check Earl's fittings. They used to sell a fitting to go from hard line to an AN.

Lol...that's the website I got mine from. I butchered the name. Anyways...that's what I used. I bought a 3/8 to -6AN and a 5/16 to -6AN, and then I just ran a 3/8 aluminum return line. I may even have enough extra line left over that I can throw into a box for you if you want. I'll try to snap some pics of my fuel system setup today when I go to mock up my battery tray.

Re: AN to factory hard line

Ok, thanks for the info. With the new 3/8" return line, how did you adapt that to the fuel return port on the fuel tank?

The 5/16" fuel line that came with the Walbro slipped onto the 3/8 hard with some twisting and some grease.

I dont' quite follow you....My cars all have a 1/4" fuel return port located on the fuel level sender on the fuel tank. Did you just clamp the 5/16" line onto the 1/4" fuel return port?

Re: AN to factory hard line

It's likely your fuel lines are between 15 and 20 years old, possibly older. It might be in your best interest to run new stuff all the way to and from the tank.

Yep. If it leaks, then I'll worry about it later.

OK. Thanks for the help! I can't believe nobody makes a 1/4" tube-to-AN fitting. Just doesn't seem to exist.

I looked it up in a hydraulic supply book, and you can get a 1/4 to -4AN fitting, but I couldn't find anybody but the supplier that I could get it from, and then you'd have to have couplers to transition to -6 and just decided that running a new line would be cheaper and cleaner.

Re: AN to factory hard line

Sorry to beat this topic to death, but I found this tool set at Summit:

    http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku

If I were to use this to flare my hard lines, would I need to use tube nut and tube sleeve instead of the sealing ferule?

Yes. The ferule is what holds it (the nut) on the hard line. The 37* angle is the angle of the inside of the AN fitting.

Some pictures of this would be great. I'd love to get rid of the rubber line, but I just have trouble figuring all of this out in my head. I have to see it.

You are correct. You still need the tube nut and sleeve if you have the 37* flare tool.

If you don't want to go that route, Earl's makes some compression fittings that go from hard line to male AN. That is what I used when installing the fuel rail on my omni.

I didn't cut the flare off the stock line and install the flare fitting there because I didn't want to get rid of the stock lines just yet.
