Front and Rear Sway Bars - Minivan (Johnny required)

    Two things...

Has anyone used the Hellwig rear sway bar kit on our vans? It's a 3/4" solid bar.

Has anyone used Polybushing's front sway bar kit on the vans? I see it's sold for just FWD K-cars depending on control arm mfg. processing. Does this fit the vans no problem? I'm leaning towards the 1 1/8" as the stock I think is 1 1/16". I really just want to replace it because I don't want a stock ugly one in place when I have a real pretty k-frame going back in. Not sure on the effects this will do in terms of understeer... I suppose it wildly depends on the setup.

Thanks for any help...members and Johnny, both. BTW, only reason I'm getting the rear from Hellwig is because I can get it at cost.

3/4 is too small. Ask for a 1 inch.
    I use a 1-1/8 inch on mine.
Mini vans should run a 1-1/4 inch on the front.

You really think the rear suspension needs tightened that much? another 1/4" is huge. Just making sure I wont make the wrong decision as I have no experience with this suspension setup.

    Thanks for your advice, johnny.

If you use the stock front bar with polyurethane bushings and a 1 inch rear bar, that works pretty well. 3/4 inch is too small.

Maybe too small to be worth much money.. To be fair, people here have installed the later factory rear sway (which probably isnt even 3/4") and have noticed enough difference to call it a good mod.

Depends on the budget and the goal, as if saying that ever helped anyone...

I have a 1" front Jeep Cherokee sway bar in the rear of my van. It was a night and day difference. I installed a 1 1/4" car sway bar on the front of my van. http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=37552 Johnny was kind enough to make me some inner swaybar bushings without the cut through the middle. I then still had to modify them a little. I was able to use the car sway bar because my van is lifted and my control arms a at a steeper angle. I think you might be able to do it on a non-lifted van but you'll have to try it yourself.

Ive seen and installed that bar, i like it. Endlink conversion alone is worth the upgrade, ESPECIALLY when it makes an install in van that much easier!!

I am running a Shelby Z 1 1/4 front bar, and the factory 2nd gen rear sway bar, it handles very good but I guess one day I should upgrade the rear, but not sure how much difference it will make, I don't notice much lean now.

Thanks for the help guys. Johnny, I'll contact you sometime after Christmas and grab those, both. I can get the Hellwig unit at about $105. It may be worth it to spend a little more and get what will net the best results.

I put a hellwig bar on an '87 2.6L caravan many years ago. Easy install (I knew next to nothing about working on cars at the time) and made a world of difference. I would agree with the other posters that you should go larger if it's in your budget.
