I do plan to relocate my battery and use the space for my AWIC set up. and put a PC680 in the LF fender.

I also run a PC680. Only issue I have ever found with it is that it has NO reserve! I don't even roll the electric windows up without starting the car because of how little reserve there is in that battery. I've even killed it in traffic when using an underdrive pulley on the engine...had *every* accessory on in the car, basically and the alternator couldn't keep up at idle...killed the battery. Luckily they are tough little buggers and it still works perfectly to this day!

wow, with my Die-hard lawn tractor battery I could go out at lunch and roll the windows all the way down, then back up after and down again after work before starting the car. The only time it died was when I took apart the steering column to tighten the tilt mechanism and accidently had the horn circuit activated all the time, No horns due to cummins IC install. Parked it on a friday and it wouldn't start monday morning. It'd start sunday morning and drive around and then start monday, but if it sat over the whole weekend it wouldn't start. Took me a while to figure out what I had done. Car also had UDP as well.

I might be being a bit paranoid, but after my experiences I just don't tempt fate. That experience is also what has driven me away from UDP's. Unless it's a "fun" car that doesn't get driven everyday, I won't use another UDP. I'd rather have the stock size pulley, but made of aluminum for weight/inertia savings.

I agree with you. I really do not see the benefit. I would rather have the piece of mind that my fuel pump and fan are getting all the juice they need. And I'd question how much benefit there would be to the weight reduction on a such a small diameter pulley.

On my TBI Acclaim I saw a minor increase in MPG with the A/C on, at the cost of of the lights dimming and wipers slowing down and poor A/C performance at idle on a rainy night.

Yeah, probably not that much inertia considering diameter, like you said.

The weight reduction from the stock A/C equipped pulley (in steel) compared to the small underdrive in aluminum is not miniscule.

We need someone to make full sized (or nearly full sized) pulleys in Al.

this guy is in jacksonville with me. I have meet him before and even interviewed for a job with the owner.

If someone has a pulley they want to get copied just let me know. I can take it over to the shop.
I can ask him about underdriving the PS or maybee just doing a 5-10% underdrive.

Agreed. I took over 1/2 lb just out of the timing belt gear on the crank.

With the UDP and aluminum flywheel my 2.5 turns over like a machine gun when I turn the key vs. that stupid wrrrr, wrrrrr, wrrrrr most other TD's do. I still need to get aluminum timing belt pulleys to drop the rotating mass even more.

I think we should find out what we would be in for to have one of the stock crank pulleys recreated in Al.
A but of underdrive would help reduce weight without making as big an impact on output voltage at idle.

    Me likey!
1/2 pound is alot off of that, and has to help, when coupled with other improvements.

Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Since the van is still at Brian's, i decided to get a new lawn tractor battery for Slug and give her some attention.
After evicting some wasps when my brother Dan came down for the trip to SDAC, Slug has just been sitting. In total, it has pretty much been sitting since I got the van back from Brian in 2015. The unresolved noise is still there that is suspected to be a cracked flexplate. But you don't really hear it until it is decelerating.

She pretty much started right up with a fresh battery and the coolant topped off. It loses coolant after sitting since the exhaust manifold studs are leaking coolant, and maybe elsewhere also.

Here's a video capturing the moment. She needs a good cleaning and some other work. Paint is getting bad after all these years.

I was renewed by talking cars with you guys!
I haven't messed with my own car in years. Its a shame that every time it has ever broken it has sat way too long before getting fixed.

Hard to believe I have owned this for 21+ years! In fact, I only own one other vehicle longer....
My 1949 Willys 4x4 pickup, bought about 2 years before my ES.

Maybe someday i can get to them...

There's alot of them out there.
I've always wanted a utility wagon.
Mine looked pretty nice when i bought it in 1994. The years of me not being around have not been kind to it.
The last time it was driven all the bolts broke off in the hub. My brother Dan or my Dad was driving. So the hub must have locked up or something.

When you going to start the thread for the ES? How many cold start injectors on that thing? Love the plate!

Lol! Thanks. I've had that plate for about 17 years, but one time i let my registration lapse when i broke the trans, and someone else got it! I had to wait a couple years and then found it available again and grabbed it. My registration is out now, so it might be taken by someone else. But without it running, i couldn't get an inspection to renew it.

Build thread for the Spirit? I had it all on my old webpage, which is now in oblivion due to changing ISP's. I still have my .html files saved somewhere on a jaz drive... I haven't built any pages in so long, i am way out of the loop now.

It currently has 2 operational cold start inj's, but I've used as many as 3. It actually worked great back then and you could feel the power boost when the 3rd on kicked on at 20psi! It used to pull very hard in 5th at 20psi with the .48 turbine housing.
This is the same Spirit that threw down 372 ft-lbs of torque to the wheels back in 2000 or so.
That's small potatoes today, but back then it was a bigger deal...
