Do you have a trans temp gauge?

Im curious as to the choice of a higher than stock stall with lower than stock gearing. I think it will create a lot of heat during normal driving.

The plan is to add one. I have a cheap one that i did not install yet. I'm going to go with a higher quality one.
But, keep in mind Slug is running a similar converter and identical gearing for over 10 years.

Well, years and street miles are not very related with these cars. If you get a gauge id be interested to hear what you find. I've never owned a trans temp gauge but I also never had a high stall converter that didn't lock up on the highway.

What value are you interested in knowing? Around town driving temp? Long highway run temp? Both?

So far, the highest I've seen the trans temp in around town driving has been 180-185F.
But the gauge has only been installed a few days.

Today, got some window tinting done. Much better now. It could have even been darker in the back.

That's lower than the trans temp in my 15 Jeep GC with the 3.6 8spd so you're probably doing something right.

So far, my readings have been lower than my coolant temp. So i figured that was excellent. We'll see if under other conditions what it is. But right now the only cooler is the one in front, it does not flow through the radiator.

MeanMini weighed in at 3120 lbs with driver and a bit over 1/4 tank.
Running front Bogarts with 8.5x23x15 M&H Racemaster slicks and the street rears American Racing stars with 215/60/15 Generals.

I'd like to know what i was shifting at! The stock tach is crappy and i hit rev limit on a few runs.
Also I did have the rev limit set a bit too low. I had it set at 6000rpm.
On one run i lost some mph after the shift to 3rd because of shifting too early.
I've ordered some additional gauges, including a tach with shift light. I'm going to get my skills up this year.

I'll copy some of the info from my other post here for the official historical record.

I'm going to try racing this Friday in Fayetteville, NC. Didn't realize it was as close as it is. Like 45 mins and a 1/4 mile. I'm trying to get the long rear studs installed so i can run the Bogarts on all 4's. I'll be sure to get some pics of so.

Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Ok, interesting. Seems like you could be able to make power higher up and move your rev limiter and shift points up with the right cam timing and tune. Did it feel like power was still climbing when you shifted?

Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

I never felt power drop off before the shifts.
The MPScan logs show i shifted at like 5300 ish. That is why i questioned if that could be off. I know i hit some sort of limiter and that is recorded in the turboflags as a 6. Don't know if that is rev limit or overboost.

The cal changes i made will bump each of those up a bit. The turbo creeps since this one still uses the internal wastegate. I kick myself now for not at least machining the TU header for an external and having a blank plate for future need.
Boost creep won't really be a problem once i know the tuning is good.

Looking back at the logs, i only seem to get a timing retard event around the time of hitting that limiter. I think right now the current cal is well into a safety zone. Which i am perfectly fine with.

I'll try to post a log of the 13.69 run.

Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

    Here is the condensed log.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...p=docslist_api
It shows the staging and the run.
I calculated the average boost during the run across the logged events after boost hit 10 in staging. It was 14.7 psi average.

Clearly there is lots to improve here. The staging limiter is now bumped up too, as well as the antilag setting.
My goals for the first time out were achieved. Keep things safe and take it slow. Plenty of time left to improve both the car's settings and my technique.

On this run it looks like the shift to 3rd was a bit early.
Its going to be a fun summer, but an even better Fall. Hope to make it to Cecil.

with that log you have the option now to import the data into mptune to help tweak the PEFTBL (if you didn't already know!).

Yes, i have done this previously. However i think the suggested table gets a bit skewed due to the changing MAP, rather than a steady state pressure.
And, i don't think being an automatic helps the situation much.
I was working with Bucar at SDAC to try and adjust this table.
I wish it were easy to take the turbo out of the equation to tune the PEFTBL. If i had a large enough wastegate i probably could.

Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

It's creeping up to 20 at ~4800. I think you NEED to keep shifting low (way too low for the setup, really) just so that you can safely tune for that.

But, with your crazy low shift points it's obvious the van will be MUCH faster once you are safely tuned to let it creep up to 20+ and take it to ~6500 rpm or possibly higher.

Dont push the red button. You hear me?

Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

At the higher rpm's, everything still looks good.
I think it is plenty safe to let the boost be what it is. (To a point obviously! )
The problem will be if i want to run 20 and it creeps to 30+.
I think i might have screwed myself by not having enough wastegate.
On one run at SDAC i tried using a g-valve to try and get 15psi. It spiked to 26 and overboosted.
    That was this run:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...list_api<br />
I think now i have my overboost set at 28psi (MAP + Baro)
