Question 84 shelby charger looking to upgrade the carb

I have an 84 carb 2.2 shelby charger. Was wondering about putting a Weber on it and some one told me about a manifold that was made for 2 carbs. Anyone have one or know about them? Also heard about a supercharger made for it. What about that? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: 84 shelby charger looking to upgrade the carb

I would NOT change the carb until it turns into junk. I put a 32/36 Weber on mine at the beginning of the year and it only picked the car up about .2 second in the 1/4. I ended up with the same jets that I was using in the Holley.

You won't need a dual carb manifold unless you do some serious work to the engine to need that kind of airflow.

Many have had good results switching to the 32/36 carbs, experiencing improved reliability, drivability and performance with very little, if any tuning.

Angelo, picking up .2 on a N/A car with a carb change is pretty spectacular I would think.

Re: 84 shelby charger looking to upgrade the carb

There were three upgrades available through Mopar back in the day.

One was the dual carb manifold that spoolinhard provided a link to. This manifold was for dual stock Holleys or you could mount dual Weber 32/36s on it. I have one of these manifolds that is NOS and never used.

The second option was a manifold for dual Weber side draft carbs. The downside to this is the sidedraft Webers are pretty expensive (I believe they are DCOE Webers). I have this manifold also.

The third option was the MP supercharger kit. Sometimes these can be found on ebay though in general they are pretty hard to come by.

Not sure what your intentions are with your Shelby Charger, but decent power can be made with some small changes. See my project log that Mike provided a link to.

It doesn't get very good gas mileage now and I think the carb is not working very well. Found a 32/32 on ebay for 289.00 Looking to hop it up alittle and get better gas mileage at the same time.

I have a weber 32 36 on my Turismo along w ported head and oversized valves and I see 23 to 25 mpg in local driving and 30 on the highway. I think I could get better hwy mpg if I made longer trips

32 36 dfev is what I am using. It is listed as a direct replacement for the holley 5200.

Re: 84 shelby charger looking to upgrade the carb

If I were to stay with one Weber carb what is the correct one to get. There are lots of 32/36 carbs to pick from. Thanks

The Weber 32/36 DFEV is the one you're after.
