    Bluetooth?

I thought someone had posted that they had setup a bluetooth module to do datalogging, but I can't find the post and can't remember who it was that said it. I've got a module I want to test out and was just looking for pointers from anyone who had done it before...

are your thinking of wiring a bluetooth module up to the rx/tx lines Rob and go wireless?

Yeah, as a test for a future product idea. Just looking for any prior experience.

Have you looked at xbee yet? We have some remote sensors at work that we're using to monitor the datacenter with and it seems to be a pretty solid protocol for simple serial stuff. Though, Bluetooth is more widely supported by phones.

since the ostrich does not allow access to the RAM i think integrating a serial to bluetooth into the SCI lines would be the best option.

Exactly. It would just be a replacement for the serial cable or USB cable. It could be used for both datalogging and flashing.

    Re: Bluetooth?

Soon, I hope. I have several ideas for products for BoostButton.com and this is one of them. I have a module, just need to figure out how to wire it in.

Now for the next question, Morris - How do we integrate BT support into MP Tuner? I figure it will be similat to the FTDI chip integration. Just a serial port with more flexible baud rates. But, I won't know for sure until I get to working with it.

The module I have is very similar to the Futulec one that was posted. And, about the same price. So, with the SCI adapter, figure a module for $50-60.

    Re: Bluetooth?

I recall that thread too, thought it was bad-azz that you could do live, on-the-fly changes from inside the car!

But, IIRC, there was a problem with the unit draining the battery... Seems like it should have been fixable, but I don't recall what exactly it was that was causing the drain... I DO recall that it worked!

    Re: Bluetooth?

That was with the ostrich. Somone else had wired one up just for data logging. Maybe it was Warren Hall (csxtra)?

not quite sure, i know the freebie bluetooth interface i use on my computer to link to my droid has a "virtual com" port option which i don't use. i need to do some reading. i imagine its alot like the ftdi, search and identify the available bluetooth device then connect at the appropriate baud rate on the appropriate port. can't be THAT hard i wouldn't think. i would assume that the bluetooth needs to connect at the available serial chip rates supported (e.g. 62500, 125000)?

I don't know, being bluetooth, I would think they would not be limited to PC type baud rates. I was hoping it was more like the FTDI chips where you would be able to select any baud rate. But, I'm not sure how you would do that from the PC side. I'll have to do some investigating with the adapter I have...

    Re: Bluetooth?

Actually, the module I bought is limited to PC-type baud rates, it appears.4800 bps thru 230.4 kbps. But, no 7812 or 62500...

    Rob,

I ran into the same issue you did with bluetooth, the only BT adapters I found only did the standard baud rates. So I ended up communicating with the ECM using wired serial for my datalogging, since my palm pilot could handle the odd baud rates.

But that was a few years ago, there may be newer options that would support the odd baud rates?
