a little heat and some times lots of heat or air hammer good luck. AL
Pull harder. Or hammer.
I hate to say this but sometimes they just don't come apart. If they're put together dry, and without the rubber washer, water will get in between them and rust them so tightly together that you'll never get them apart. Next time you install them be sure to grease the axle and the I-shaft so this doesn't happen again.Originally Posted by ottawa rogue

I have the exact same problem with my lancer. Because they won't come apart I have to go to the junkyard and hope that some there will come apart. This is what I get for not tightening a bolt.

i went to town on mine also with a 5 lb. sledge and a chisel. I forgot, but I need to get a new intermediate shaft anyway cause one of the u joints on mine is frozen.
I heard this on the SDML awhile back. Drill a hole in to the hollow part, tap it and install a grease fitting then pump it up full of grease. They said it may take awhile for it to work. One guy said he left it in the shop and the next morning it was across the floor. I guess a fair amount a of pressure will build up, enough to shoot it apart so be safe!!

quick question. Since I need a new intermediate shaft, am I going to have a problem finding one at a junkyard since I have a Lancer Shelby and the 555 trans? Or at least I think I have the 555 trans.
they should be all the same, except for the big spline/small spline thing,
i even think you can use one for an auto if i'm not mistaken
Auto / Manual are the same. just the big / small spline thing to be carefull of like Ottwa rogue said........
i went to the jy and i got an intermediate off of a daytona I think. what I ended up finding out was that all shafts are the same, but the turbo cars have the intermediate as opposed to the big one peice. Now I'll just go out and grab me a new cv and i'll be good to go.
