So is your truck overloaded if it is sitting on the bump stops?

So is your truck overloaded if it is sitting on the bump stops? how much 6 short blocks weigh, some common some not. Also 5 manual transmissions and one auto? 2000 lbs? I have a bunch of crap in the back of my 2005 2500. I think it is crying a bit.

Maybe 600lbs. in trans alone there. The short block are what's weighing you down. Although I'm pretty sure that's what the bump stops are there for.

    6 short blocks ~150lbs~ each 900lbs
    5 mtx around ~100lbs~ each 500lbs
    1 atx around ~130lbs~

    ~1600lbs~ shouldnt hurt a 2500

That shouldn't put a 3/4 ton on the bump stops?

    What's the truck rated for?

I have a couple more bare blocks, no cranks/pistons. One of the MTX is an SRT4 trans which prolly the weight of an auto. I have a couple of vises, 6 mustang hubs/axles (not the diff/housing) some boxes of parts, a set of 17's with no tires, a packed up bolt bin and some other crap. oh and a 175lbs camper top. It was about an inch from the bump stop until I attached a uhaul cargo trailer. It is a 6x12 and I'd guess the tongue weight is 500lbs.

the door sticker say 9000 gvwr. Total is 13300 with a trailer. 2005 quad cab long bed 2wd, E range tires.

not sure what an overload spring stop is. The axles it is now touching a rubber bushing that is on the frame rail.

Apparently, the 2500 Dodge is not much more than a 1500. You should get a spring set made for it.

Re: So is your truck overloaded if it is sitting on the bump stops?

Short answer, yes your truck is overloaded.

According to the internets, your max payload capacity is around 2700 pounds. You should be able to find the true number in your owners manual. Look for payload capacity, not towing capacity.

If your axles can handle the load, look for a set of helper springs, airbags, or Timbrens. Timbrens are basically specialty rubber springs that replace the bump stops, and have some pretty impressive load ratings. Rock Auto carries them under Suspensions>helper springs.

Re: So is your truck overloaded if it is sitting on the bump stops?

new trucks are NOT made to haul, they are made to pull. Want to haul buy an old truck or buy a trailer.

For example your truck weighs 6500, an old truck weighs 4000 lbs, both are rated at 9000. But the new truck is made to have a soft suspension to make the new Dodge compete with POS imports for ride quality. So the truck squats and the GVW also includes a loaded cabin, quad cabs also push the bed farther back. So your new truck gets almost no front load in the bed.

You need to have 1" between the rubber stops and the axle / frame / etc. That means when you leave with a load you leave with 1.5" as it'll drop .5 after a few miles.

I have loaded a 1967 Dodge 3/4 with factory over loaders to 12,743 lbs with 1" up front and 1.5" after the trip. That means it had 4.5 yards of sand on it. I was charged for 8,500 lbs of clean screened sand. You try that with a new truck and you'll kill it.

I was at the home show last fall across from a guy with a brand new 550 Ford dump truck, with real steel dirt bed not some wood farmer bed. The trucks GVW at 550 was 17,900, the trucks weigh empty? 13,500, wow he can haul 4,400 lbs. My 1970 dodge 500, GVW of 24,000 lbs on the door. Real dirt dump truck, weighs 8,100 with me in it at the dump and regular cab it puts weight over the nose unlike the 4 door Ford. But that puts the payload at near 16,000 vs the near 4,500 for a new Ford.

So want to drive a new truck? buy a trailer and don't bother with a long bed. A new work truck doesn't have any options, nothing electronic but GPS. Standard cab, long bed and 2 or 4 wd. Then everyone adds the 5,000 air bags. But even still they don't do well, I added the same weight I haul regular to my 1969 D300 to a new 550 Chevy. 4.5 yards of gravel. I almost rolled it as it had such a problem with it. Even the tires between the duals started smoking with heat. So to be fair they all suck lol.

If you really front loaded the trailer that hurts you too. Always center the weight of the load on the trailer on the front axle. Then always put heavy weight on the truck to the back window and light weight on the tail gate. Proper weight distribution could have helped you too.

You are easily over that 2414 lbs with what you listed. It looks as though you are just touching the bump stops though. There is still some suspension travel left at this point. You should be ok for your haul but I'd watch for any hard bumps during your ride. You could also possibly move some stuff from the truck bed to the trailer.

Wow, only 2400 lbs payload capacity,

Yep, your overloaded, so if you want to keep doing this, you'll need helper springs, air bags or another set of springs, which will make it ride harsh empty, Otherwise drive slowly to the dump.
