Prep for a turbo that's been sitting

Picked up a turbo recently that is very clean and I'd guess it has very low miles...but it has been boxed up in a garage for 5+ years.

Does anyone have advice on prep before installation? Should I just pour some oil in it and work it around, or...

Personally, I'd flush it with WD-40, leave it sit for a couple hours, then flush it with motor oil and then try turning it.

Well it has plenty of uses, just as long as you remember lubricant isn't one.

Ya thats my point, why put it in there if its not a lubricant? Reular oil would be better IMO

'coz it's a solvent and cleaner, to get the gummy old oil out. Otherwise, it might flow the new oil very poorly for a crucial first few seconds when hooked up.

My experience is that oil stays oil for a long time.

turn it upside down on a bucket and with a funnel pour marvel mystery oil down through the return line. The MMO will eat the gummy oil and carbon in the turbo also leaving it lubricated. Block it off for a week and it will get into the carbon seal which requires oil before start up.

Send it to Turbosunleashed and have them go through it.
