ok, so my car hits overboost at odd points (i.e. 2, 8, and 11 psi) but only sporadically. is this a logic module problem, or the map sensor ('85 t1 integrated Map into module). and can it be cured with a grainger valve?

And in addition to the vacuum lines have a look if your Alternator (!!) is charging well. If there are problems with your field terminals you are likely to run into this problem as well. It happened to me. Because then the coil does not get sufficiant power supply.
a grainger valve won't fix the problem (at least, it didn't in my case). as suggested, doublecheck the vacuum lines.
thanx guys, i'll make sure all the lines are tight and the terminals on the alternator are clean although it all seems to be fine
