    Need a little help!!!! 15.250 @ 94 mph what???

So I took my 87 dodge daytona shelby Z to the track last night. I'm running a stock TII with a open exhaust no cat. I'm getting about 16 psi... and I ran a 15.250 @ 94 MPH.Very disappointing I tought at least high 14's. I'm having a hard time leaving. I think it's my driving?? hahaa. Any suggestion on how to leave the line? Is a smoother launch better?? This is my first time racing a 5 speed car? anyhelp???

Re: Need a little help!!!! 15.250 @ 94 mph what???

what were your 60 foot times??? im going to say 2.4 ish??

these cars really need a set of slicks to get traction. my old spirit could run 15.7 @ 92mph but the 60' time was terrible 2.5-2.6 LOL. a set of slicks and it would have ran mid-low 14 on a lightly modded 2.2

my current car has run consistent 12.0 on slicks but try and give her with street tires, and et drops to 13.7 (@117 lol)

    Still have the stock muffler?

blip the throttle as hard and fast as you can around your desired launch rpm. This get's the turbo spooled up (you have a BOV too right?). When the light turns green side step the clutch and it should hook up. If it doesn't try a bit lower rpm depending on how much it spins. I used to launch my 87 Z when it was a 2.2 around 4grand with the above technique on streets.

Also find an 89 5spd shifter from a Shelby Daytona or a Lebaron GTC. Putting one in my 87 knocked over .1 from my ET.

anyway modulate it out of the hole, try short shifting into 2nd maybe and shift fast.

If you're waiting for the light to turn green you've already gone wrong.

sure if you're bracket racing. If you're just going for ET then it doesn't matter when you leave.

Re: Need a little help!!!! 15.250 @ 94 mph what???

If it makes you feel any better i went to a track with my moderate/highly modified daytona and street tires...ran a 17.8...that's right...17.8....(similarly modded cars run low to mid 12's....)

every single gear broke them loose...the second the turbo spooled i lost traction. (i should add, i break them loose on the street, not as early..but i lose a lot of traction...)

I have 19's w/ lo-pro's...i'm not going back til i get a legit set of tires...(and i learn how to drive apparently)

As Jay said, only matters if your racing the guy next to you, you don't start recording your time until you move.

Your 60 ft is killing you, fix that and your easily in the 14's.

I agree. I couldn't do much better than a 2.6 60' in my Daytona at SDAC this year. The best I could manage was a 16.x at 90MPH. Very consistent though.

    Magnaflow=good

gutting the cat might hurt flow unless you're sure it's all out. I'd rather see it replaced with a straight pipe or one of those fake cat's that have a pipe inserted through a cat body if you have to pass some sort of visual.

I got a 89 tona to run a 14.7 at the same trap. It was all in the traction. Go to the track a few times, make as many passes as possible and it will get better. To me, its one of those things the more you do it the better at it you get!

Maybe some suspension work will help, go to autozone or some other parts store and buy some rubber coil spring spacers, about $5. Install a couple on the driver's side rear coil spring. This will help throw weight onto the passenger side front during launch.

Moving the battery to the passenger side helps too, but can be a PITA on some cars.
