    Alternator Mounting Configuration

Ok, so i'm doing it tonight, i'm going to put the damn car back together if it kills me. I miss the damn thing.

So, my question is this. Does anyone have a pictures or can relate to me the correct sequence of spacers/washers on the alternator mounting bolt?

When i took the mount apart one of the washers/spacers fell to the ground and when putting it back on, i couldn't seem to get the pulley to line up correctly.

I managed to get the belt on, and it ran for a while and seemed fine, but when i look at it, it appears crooked and i can't for the life of me imagine its good for the long term health of the car. As it sits right now, the 3 "washers" are on the far side of the bolt, with the spacer going into the bracket.

I have the 160 amp alternator from Lugert if that makes any difference. Any help is appreciated, i know i can get it back together "good enough", but i'd like to be able to enjoy this car with minimal "fear" of things breaking..so if you know the correct combination, your help is appreciated.

Maybe i'm just being paranoid, take a look, let me know what you think.

Thanks guys, i know i ask a lot of dumb questions, but every day i walk by this car and i'm starting to miss driving it...

There should be a cylindrical spacer which goes where your zip tie is. The bolt goes through it and the two bushings in the alt case are tight to it.

The rubber busings have a sleeve in them. The large washers go on the outside of the rubber busings.

That's about all there is to it.

    Resurrection here...
I have this problem even after putting it back together the right way.
Is it possible the alt/ac bracket can be warped permanently?
When I put mine back together correctly, there is an obvious mis-alignment of alt pulley.
I tried different bushings and spacers and bolts and washers and it will not line up no matter what when tight to motor.
I am going to replace the whole bracket next, as I am out of ideas.

Which bottom bracket does it use?

I still have some billet bottom brackets for the common block mounts if that helps.

Yes they are a replacement for the 89+ rubber tear drop shaped ones. The rubber on the originals always seems to crack and break. The solid aluminum ones don't have that problem and the rubber is not needed on the mount.

They are $30 plus $5 shipping.

There were M8 and M10 sized bolt versions so be sure to measure before ordering.

They are on this page: http://rbryant.freeshell.org/misc_products.htm

    Thanks,

I ended up modifying the frontside bushing so the alt sits more toward crank pulley on outside thus making it line up properly.
If this is done adjuster bracket may have to be modified for greater range to pull belt tight enough.

it's pretty clear that you're missing the washer that goes behind the bolt in the left of your picture. With the washer missing, the bolt just tightens into the rubber, causing a severe misalignment of the alternator (speaking from experience here). Make sure you have a washer between the bolt and rubber bushings at each end. Then tighten the bolt, and you'll be good to go! Good luck!
