Are these odometer gears the same?

Hey guys, I have an '89 Lancer Shelby and my bro has an '89 Daytona parts car. My Lancer's odo. gear is broken and I was wondering if the tona's gear would be the same kind. I wanted to get some info before I tore apart both clusters just to find out it was all a waste of time heh.

Don't know if they're the same or not, but are you sure the Daytona one isn't broken already?

Everything up top should be similar, the gearing is corrected at the extension housing end.

IIRC they used color codes to determine which gear was which. Blue and Yellow are two that I have seen.

The only thing that determines the speedo gear is tire size.

Uhh... the speedo gear is attached to the speed sensor in the trans....

And I'm not sure about the Lancer, but the '89 Daytona had an electronic speedo...

Well this is turning into a real cluster ffffffiasco. I guess you will just have to pull a complete unit at the wreckers.

Re: Are these odometer gears the same?

There are places online the sell the cluster gear that commonly breaks in our cars. Just do a quick Google search for Chrysler Speedo Gear. I can't recall where I ordered mine from but it was nicer than the stocker...

Re: Are these odometer gears the same?

Well I've already ordered the gear guys. And if I can't repair my current speedo what's the best way of getting that plastic needle off it's splines so I can get to the pinion gear for the odometer? Apparently the adhesive they use holds stronger than the breaking point of the shaft it sits on...

That part I haven't figured out yet. Wish I had some spare H-body clusters for ya, but all I have are half a dozen Daytona clusters.

Well my odometer gear came in today. I'm gonna repair my original odometer and try to fix my speedo with super glue! Haha! Ok I know that this probably won't work at all but I'm gonna give it a shot, it's already broken anyways right? lol

Re: Are these odometer gears the same?

I used a very small cotter pin to fix my cluster once. Still there and still working all this time later
