    "Floors" in a 'tona?

    Hi folks,

Haven't really seen any G-body tinworm carnage pics as much as P-body or L-body ones, I've seen 'em with rockers and quarters going out... but was wondering where the "typical" rot points are in the floors in these.

Situation is, that I've seen a cheap 'tona for sale, and from the pics it is a very good "10 footer" can see no sign of anything around the rockers and arches, might still be starting there, but at the moment looks presentable. Owner however says the floors will need attention... how much attention I don't know, maybe he's being brutally honest and it's just flaking underneath a bit and can be stopped. Maybe there's actual holes.

But, I have no real idea where these normally start to go through and where it is in relation to PITA stuff to work around or remove. Whether it's usually on the flat more towards the seat or is awkward up against the firewall or under the seat involving mounting rails. I know it hypothetically could be anywhere and as bad as it gets, just wondering what is typical.

Could be anywhere between almost not worth mentioning and major, I just get the impression from the ad that he might have had a chain garage look it over "free inspection with oil change" sorta thing and they frightened him with a 4 figure "estimate" accompanied by much sucking of teeth. (If you wanna make bank you should prolly stick a cars bought sign on every utility pole near every Midas and similar)

Anyway, bit out of my way to go and look at, and not sure it's in the budget at all, but just wanted an idea of whether floor problems can be solved on these by not very experienced torch wielders.

    thanks,

    RW222

Well, on my 89 shelby, the typical EM brake hole rots out.. It has made its way towards the wheel well....i have holes in my shelby...well, i foamed it up atleast and put some tin on top.....this is the worst spot...cause if it gets bad enough it will rust out the strut tower and if you hit a bad bump say good bye to that body......then you have the spare tire tub...usallly rots threw....and then comes the 1/4 panels....and then most of the time the ground effects will cover up the nasty rocker...on my shelby both are gone...lol..the ground effects are onl held on by the 2 side rails....oh well....but thats pretty much it.....

    T-Top or hard top

Mine was rusted at the front seam on the drivers side, spare tire well was GONE, pass rear floor had small hole, drivers front had various soft spots, hatch rain gutter, and some on the quarter panel.

    Thanks guys,

I hear wheel wells go bad often? I guess that ties in with the ebrake mount rot up front.

Working on getting "permission"... she says 'tonas are ugly, thinks our Escort Wagon is better looking... hmmm.

I'm tending towards letting this one slip by though I think, it's an 89. An '87 or earlier TM would be far more "do-able" as regards collector insurance, tags, lack of emissions testing etc.

if you know how to weld and dont bother getting the interior out and got some time , its a easy fix , mine took 8 hour to fix and the results are awesome , go look at it and see if theres more work that the seller claims
