    datalogging a LM

87 tona shelby z t2, LM is socketed with a rs232 converter from schmartboard, Tx and Rx come form the chip next to the socketed one. I believe i'm on pins 11 and 12 respectively.

So I'm trying to datalog and I'm having no success. The rs232 converted is blinking, so I figure its doing something. I've tried using chem and it connects, but displays all of the ram as 00. LMLog can't connect. Winlog fails when I try to load the LM drivers. I'm probably doing something wrong there since I have never used winlog before.

any clue where I need to go form here?

    Re: datalogging a LM

I'm loading up a XP VM on my linux laptop to see if I can get any different results. Are there by chance any linux tools that could help me out?

    same results on that machine.

I saw cordes was hooking up the the tx/rx at the red connector, should I be connecting there?

    Re: datalogging a LM

did you try switching tx and rx?

i used an older version of chem to test datalogging. 190 maybe. the latest version of old chem did not work.

make sure a scanner isnt hooked up either lol.

did you hook up the +5v and ground to the schmartboard?

    Re: datalogging a LM

    Haven't tried switching them yet.

I'm using the 195 version of chem.

    I don't own a scanner

I'm grabbing +5v and ground from some nearby locations like in the KC atricle

I'll try swapping them and chem 180

one thing that seems wierd is that the tx light on my rs232 interface or usb to serial converter isnt flashing.

if I swap tx/rx the rx light comes on solid

I hope you figure it out. I have a similar 232 from Mouser that I wanna get working, haven't hooked anything up yet.

chem 195 and 194 give the same results....all 00 in ram. I duno how to get 180 to work since it doesn't ask for a com port

    Re: datalogging a LM

Does the Schmartboard invert the logic on the LM side? For some reason, Chrysler inverted the logic - 0v = "hi" and 5v = "lo" logic. The FTDI cable/chip allows software inversion. But, RS232 converters need a hardwre inverter, usually.

    Re: datalogging a LM

Actually that board does not have inverted logic. BUT - it should actually work the way you have it hooked up. Since you're going straight to the chip (sorry, just read that part), you don't need to worry about the inverted logic. That's done elsewhere on the board. The inverted logic is at the SCI pins.

    Re: datalogging a LM

    nope. moparchem only has 180 194 195

I'm thinking its more than that since it wont work with lmlog either, but its worth a shot

    Re: datalogging a LM

If you want to try with winlog or the logworks plugin, LMK. If you try and connect with portmon watching the serial port, send me the output. I may be able to tell something about what's wrong. The logworks plugin will work OK without a wideband as a troubleshooting measure.
