    Re: 1995 Plymouth Voyager Turbo

We have better useable cases in the event that we want to reuse the 568 guts. If Strax doesn't want them im going to (eventually...) selfishly nab them for a tall gear + obx build for Aries.

    Carnage pics

Adam and I got it out in about 40 minutes unfortunately there was a derp moment in there and neither of us thought to double check the spline sizes. So now it waits for a new clutch disc.

    It's alive!!

Running great with the 523, it a little smoother and quieter than the 568. The gearing is WAY higher though. Great for highway use, but I'll have to see how it goes at the track.
Also, re-did the alternator tensioner for the 160A Durango Alternator.
Made a new bracket utilizing part of the old one.

It's by no means perfect, but it will work for now.

I thought there was a 160A alternator option on Caravn/Town&Countries that was bolt-on

If there was, it was probably bolt on for a 3.3/3.8...

    Re: 1995 Plymouth Voyager Turbo

AFAIK it was running the whole time with a 2-rib belt on it

We swapped that 523 in there in no time flat after the 568 broke!

It's been running for a while, but I've been out of town a lot, and we just bought an '05 Pacifica. Between all the cars and being out of town I haven't had a whole lot of time in the seat.

I've held one of the larger amp alternators in my hands at work and the bracketry looked the same. I'll try to find it again and take pictures and post up the applications.

    Re: 1995 Plymouth Voyager Turbo

    Update time!

Alternator still working great, no belt wear and no squeal.

Then the Van had a low / no boost problem. I thought it was the IC plumbing so I replaced some couplers with proper silicone jobbies from Amazon. Gotta love Amazon prime!
Still no boost. After a lot of fiddling I found it out to be the adjustable wastegate arm. Seems like it stripped out and loosened itself up. I tightened it up and hooked it back on and the boost is back! I forgot how much fun it was to drive this thing.

Then I decided to tackle the air conditioning. I got the compressor hooked back up and topped up the coolant. It worked fine for about a day before I smelled the tell tale burning hair smell of a toasted clutch. Instead of checking the pressures or the compressor I just got a decent used coil / clutch from Vigo and after cleaning it up I slapped it on.
    Well, that lasted a day.

I was never happy with the way the AC system turned out so now seems like a good time to re-do it.

My plan is to replace the old A590 compressor with the newer 10PA17C. I'll need the bracket, tensioner, and some of the lines to make it work. Conveniently, Vigo is parting out a same generation van so I can steal some of the AC lines from that. It will probably end up being a mix of 89 Turbo, 95 V6, and 95 I4 lines. Hopefully as an added bonus there will be more room for the upper radiator hose.

Also the engine started smoking again!! I wish I would have known about the mechanical valve stem seals earlier. At least it's an easy if only temporary fix.

    Awesome, sorry about the A/C.

What mechanical issue on the valve seals? The guides dropping?

Last time the valve stem seal popped off the top of the valve stem. There doesn't seem to be any more mechanical play in that one compared to the rest but I suppose it's possible. What to you think the chances are it could be an oiling or boost leakage issue?
I just used a small flat blade to push it back down last time.

Well they aren't really a push on design per say, but if the guide drops, which is common, that will let a ton of oil thru.

What do the plugs look like?

Last time this happened, all of the valve guides looked to be at the same height. There also didn't seem to be any looseness. It was pretty obvious that the one valve stem seal was riding WAY higher than the rest. After it was pushed back down the smoking disappeared.
I haven't checked the plugs in a while, I'll be sure to do that next time I mess with it.

There just kind of a rubber push on, nothing positive. I would check the plugs and post up pics if you like.
