    Mustang GT's...

Well, I see them all over the place, even try to get a race or two but to no avail. Any idea on what the 4.6 GT's will run? I also know of a guy who has a 93 GT 5.0 with headers, and intake. He thinks he'll really lay a hurting on the RT. I have his # so we'll see what happens.

So, 91 Spirit RT, 12-13 psi on a straight piped 3" (from bottom of DP-back) exhaust system. Will I get spanked or what?

depends on the year. The 96-98s aren't anything special I think they run around the high 14s in the 1/4 give or take a couple tenths. The 99+s got a pretty decent bump in power and again without looking anything up I think they are low 14s maybe high 13s with a really good driver.

My 89 5.0l has all the normal junk and isn't all that fast but then it does have 150k miles on it. I've never taken it to the track but I'd guess it would be somewhere around 14 flat.

Low 15's high 14's in the low 90's is typical for those cars. From a roll a stock TII usually takes them ... so a TIII should be a lock.

Even in my mid 15second VNT Lebaron I used to beat on stock GTs all the time. At the track I raced 2 modified ones. One ran a 16.7 that I beat, the other ran a 13.9 and beat me. Driver skill seems to make a fair bit of difference. The brand new GTs are very fast though, reportedly 13.9 from some sources (dealers).

Yep, all depends on year. Also, keep in mind the older they are, the least likely they are stock.

A guy here at work bought one.(2006)
He was running 14 flat all night long, until another guy at the track told
him to drive it like you stole it.
He said the last pass of the night he thrashed it, went 13.55@102.
Totally stock, 1200 miles on it.

The 06's are solid 13 second cars. My Horizon waxed an 02 GT they run somewhere in the mid to low 14's. Like 14.1-14.5 depending on auto or manual and the driver.

13.9 is fast. The 06 GTs are definitely a step up from previous years, and they even look reasonable too.

I burned an older 4.6 GT at the track, with my Neon. He was pissed and drove back to the pits and popped the hood to see if anything was wrong with his car.

Your R/T would take the 5.0.

Watch out with your R/T. From a roll you should be able to beat him, assuming he's telling the truth.

With this run of yours, it's yours to lose in the first 60 ft. That is where every race from a dig I've had with all of my TDs has been determined. From a roll they have lost very few.

The 260hp 4.6Gt's were tested to run a 14.1 by motor trend. The new 300hp ones at 13.8. They dropped the hp of the 93 5.0 to 205. I'd be surprised if he beat you.

You guys sound like they are something special.. lol 300hp and they only run high 13's? A 300hp heavyweight (aka daytona) would easily smoke one. (provided traction wasn't an issue).

He thinks he'll really lay a hurting on the RT
Funny thing about Mustang owners. .they all think they have the fastest cars on the road. Yet when it comes down to it all.. they can't explain why an old TD with much less hp blows the doors off of them every time.

    Re: Mustang GT's...

My T2 converted New yorker Sucked the headlights out of a 96-98ish GT at the track by 10-12 cars Out on the freeway in a slightly newer GT It was neck and neck. From the light off the freeway I had him in 1st gear from a stop, Then forgot I had it locked out in 1st and bounced off the rev limiter 3 times, hit 2nd gear and couldn't pull him but he couldn't pull me either. Kicked myself for that but thought we were gonna go from a roll till the light turned red and was concentrating on getting the boost up and not what gear I was in. Anyway still embarassing to have a fairly stock T2 Auto New Yorker (grandma car hehe) Run side by side your GT mudstain with your two Girlie friends in the car laughing their heads off. The New Yorker cranked out a 14.3 at the track in the same trim it runs on the street.

Mustangs aren't anything special if they're stock. They respond well to mods. You should take care of him with your R/T. Turn the boost up to 14psi man.

The problem I have with many mustang guys is they brag about having 500hp out of a 4.6L or a 5.0L.

^^^ They look at the absolute power numbers, while you're looking at the specific output(hp/c.i.) side of the numbers. I've had that discussion many times before. I simply reply that cylinder for cylinder I put out more power.
500 HP is nothing to laugh at though.

I was running a couple of older GTs (94+) at the track two weeks ago. I was running mid 9s to their low 10s (1/8th mile).

I thought it was ultra haha!

    Lack of efficiency.

I've built both a V8 and 4 Cylinder. I prefer to be the underdog.

I agree.....faster is faster, who cares who makes more power per cylinder.

Anyway....I stayed with a '92 GT with exhaust from a roll in my stock ( except for open downpipe)automatic T1 Daytona...little Mitsu spooling for all she's worth. Neither of us could pull on each other.
