    Camshaft sprocket on intermediate shaft

Since the TIII I-shaft is driven faster than than our other engines, will reducing it's speed reduce bushing failures? Or is an idler pully a better way to go?

    Thanks,
    Guy

I used the 8 valve cam sprocket but then you have to remove the idler pulley and use a countersunk screw at the power steering bracket.

It would seem to make sense that running the larger sprocket should help as it seems alot more TIII's chew up the gear BUT its also been pointed out its a belt tensioning issue as well.

I did have a special sprocket made but it was too tight and didn't let the int shaft float and it wore my oil pump and int gear's.

When this motor goes back together, I want to try and run the larger sprocket and do the idler mod and if I can't figure it out, I'll probably run the stock TIII int sprocket and do the idler mod, it really stops the belt from flying around.

I hope that's clear as mud, lol.

So why did chrysler put the smaller sprocket on? Does the T3 head need that 20% or so extra flow?

I would not worry about trying to get the larger gear to work on the I-shaft. Just do the idler on the front trick and tension your belt CORRECTLY and call it good. Some local guys and myself have been doing this for a few years nows with zero issues on about 15 cars with 100K+ combined miles on them
