Where is the best place to get the denso gear reduction starter?

I'm having a hard time figuring out which one to order on rockauto. (They have reman units and new units, but the new units either don't say gear reduction or they list both the denso and bosch units under the same item).

I tried to order a couple Nippondenso starters from RockAuto last month but it looked like they were out of stock. I went to Motor City Reman and found them there for a decent price.

Got them pretty quickly and wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

When I tried to buy them at RockAuto, I found them using 1987 Dodge Lancer ES w/2.2L Turbo as the application. You want the Beck Arnley model #1870442.

I just checked and according to RockAuto's website there is ONE available as of right now.

Are the large Bosche units a bad choice?

Not at all, they're just bulky. When I stripped my old '86 Daytona, the starter was one of the very few factory original parts on the car, with about a quarter million miles. But the later gear reduction ones are a little easier to R&R, and take a little less power to turn the engine (good for those running smaller batteries).

Thanks. That's what I ordered from Rockauto ($$$) just before I read this thread.

No, but you need a heat shield otherwise they burn up, the Nippo's have the shield built in,
