    Identifying tranny's with no tag?!

Hey, found a guy locally that has a few of our FWD 5-speed tranny's but he sais they are missing the tag. Is there a way to identify the different trannys?

I need to know asap so I can go check them out!

    Thanks

Stamped diff cover is a 525

stamped 5th gear cover and cast diff cover is a 520 or 555

cast 5th gear cover and cast diff cover is a 523 or 568

The difference between a cast cover and stamped cover should be extremely easy to see.

520 vs 555: take off the top cover and look at the gearset. fine gears 520, course cut 555

523 vs 568: not so cut n dry since the 92+ 523 uses a course cut gearset also but taking off the top cover will help anyways since the 90-91 uses a fine cut gearset.

odds would favor them being 520/523 since they are just more common than the 555/568.

check to see where the screw hole is from where the tag was attached if it faces straight up its a 520/555 if its a 523 its on the angle part of the bellhousing I assume a 568 is in the same place as a 523.
