Can anyone ID this?
I thought I had a 555 tucked away somewhere but I haven't found it. I did find this and I don't know what it is.

It sure looks like a 520 or 555 to me. Look at the diff cover. Not a 525.

Looks a lot like this one. Assuming BradP didn't screw me, it is an A-555.

Take the selector off and you can look at the gears to determine if it is an A555 or A520.
Take pictures and post them.
You could pull the differential cover and count the differential teeth vs the intermediate shaft if you want, that would give you the final ratio and that would pretty much tell you what transmission you have.
From just looking at that pic it's either a A520 or A555.
I agree with pulling the top cover off (the 6 10mm bolts) nothing will fall out or move... it's easiest to take the cover off with the selector in neutral and when you reinstall it, make sure the reverse arm is engaged over the selector properly... if it's a 1987-88 A555 you'll see the 4 pinion diff by looking thru the axle opening. If it's an 1989 A555 then the only real way to check is by taking that selector cover off, since they only have a 2 pinion diff... the A555 has coarse pitch gears and is easily noticeable once the cover is removed.

Yes, the differential was drilled for 4 pinion. Only 2 got put in there.
