    Strong aftermarket fan

I need a strong aftermarket fan that would have lots of air flow. Will have to be a little smaller than a stock fan. What are the good brands out there?

    Thanks.

Hayden 14 inch isn't up to the task. Then again, I am in Phoenix.

I have a flexalite 16" fan which fits in my GLHT and allows for a full size oil filter to be used. I made my own shroud and attached the fan to it. No problems keeping the car cool while idling in 90+ degree temps with the TII rad. It also pulls significantly fewer amps than the stock fans do.

Change yer rad cap for a new 16 pounder.
(If you've had the old one in more than 3 years it's probably only holding 7 or 8)

    Rule of thumb is...

If the car runs hot when stationary but runs cool at cruise, you need more fan.
If the car runs hot all the time, a fan isn't going to help.

At speed, I can drive and temperature would be steady. At low speed or idle, temp will go up and up. I have a Hayden 14 inch fan and re-core radiator, new thermostat, new coolant, new waterpump, etc but no shroud. Hayden fan is either 1400cfm or 1700 cfm (part # is no good for searching) but the 2700cfm fan should fix the problem and I'll try to make a shroud at the same time.

A shroud would make a big difference to begin with.

    +1 to that!

When I put the 2.4L in the Z the intake plenum got in the way of the fan, so I moved it out front and made it a pusher instead of a puller and the car ran warmer... so I made some ductwork between the FMIC and radiator and it helped a ton.

    Re: Strong aftermarket fan

+1 to the shroud! I went to a local heating and air conditioning company that could make their own ductwork and they made a really nice sheetmetal shroud for my Omni (with the NPR intercooler) using a 14" Derale Tornado electric fan on stock radiator. Worked great, although I must admit I'm at about 5000ft here in Wyoming and I've yet to turn the A/C on in my CSRT and I've owned it two years now!

I would avoid mounting the electric fan directly to the core with those zip ties they usually come with. It's only a matter of time before they end up rubbing through a core tube and they never seem to stay tight.

You should run it a few mins every other month, keep the lube spread around, the seals from drying up and the shafts from seizing in place.

Ha, didn't even really consider that. I do run defrost occasionally though, so it should be OK?

    Re: Strong aftermarket fan

Yeah, that's half the reason it's rigged into the defrost. Though some aren't but that might just be old stuff.

BTW I've got an idea that if you put a strip of conveyor belt dangling at the back of the K frame, it would create low pressure behind it, and help suction hot air out of the engine bay and pull in fresh through the rad...

... it should get even more effective if you put a pan between the front of K frame to front crossmember and had airdam directing flow to front of rad... but then you probably wouldn't need anything on the back of the K-frame, if that was the first aperture the low pressure behind the air dam could suck from. But, being between the wheels you can dangle something lower there and not worry about hitting entrance ramps with it, as opposed to the clearance you have to leave at the bottom of an airdam.

    Re: Strong aftermarket fan

I'm running a stock (parts store replacement) L-body radiator in my Charger, and a stock fan out of a V6 Spirit with the shroud trimmed to fit between the end tanks. It looks factory, installs like factory, and the car never gets above 215.

I use a GPHK (all exc TII) radiator in my Horizon. At speed it sits right at thermostat temp.
