Steering Wheel Airbag Removal

My friend recently acquired a '92 Sundance, its in bad shape so hes running it in our local demo derby, the car has a airbag in the steering wheel, how do we go about removing it without damaging anything? and are there anymore airbags that we need to know about?(passenger side?) Any help would be appreciated

Only the 1 bag. Comes out with screws from the back, just be sure to unhook the battery for about 15 minutes before removal.

ya 4 nuts in the back or there steering wheel hold it in. Pull that out and theres a tiny plug...unplug it and your good to go.

hit the bumper really hard with a sledge, hey its a demo derby car anyways and then no more air bag

I could it it on the bumper to deploy it, but Ill still have to go through the 4-nut issue to remove the deployed bag, plus I dont like the idea of potentially damaging the car before the derby even starts lol

He gave me the airbag, which I dont need, but if any of you guys need one I'll be glad to send it to ya, just pay shipping, whatever that may be.

Not sure if the steering wheel section can be removed, but if it can't then its medium gray in color.

After the derby he's giving me the car to strip of whatever else may be salvageable, unfortunately hes already scrapped the taillights, headlights and a ton of exterior parts, he still have all of the windows in good condition(windshield cracked though, window cranks, and most interior parts...Ill be making a Sale ad when I get the car.

you cant ship airbags, theyre explosives.


you should get a dummy cover, canadian cars had airbags as an option so there is a factory cover that looks the same and is softer then the metal inside.

I've seen quite a few of those covers in 91(?) minivans down here in the States if that helps

First gen chrysler airbags are nasty when they deploy... Countless innocent kitchen appliances have been blown apart with amazing amounts of destruction posted on youtube.

I've had an airbag go off on me twice in my spirits, seemed to work fine. The accidents werent that severe...maybe 25mph at most. Also I sit a normal distance away from the steering wheel, I'm not like grandma sitting 2" away.

I have an airbag in my shed I need to get rid of one of these days

Anyone who doesn't want their old air bags send them to me. My buddies and I love blowing stuff up with them LOL
