Cool THE one off factory 2.5 TIII, questions!

So in recent weeks, alot of digging around for info and this and that and I came across the factory 2.5 TIII again, I already new about it but you always forget. Anyhoo, found another link mentioning it uses a basically stock 2.5 bottom end except for a one off forged crank. So this has me puzzled, the compression should be around 7:1 but yet they say it runs awesome???

Dang that would have been cool! I'm assuming they probably decided to kill it off in favor of the Viper?

One interesting thing I noticed is where they mention using fuel injectors from the Methanol program because they were approximately 50% larger. This sounds like the FFV injectors a lot of us use, but aren't they supposed to be about 18-20% larger in fact?

I thought the official end of the high powered turbo 4 daytona was the stealth. That pile of crap wouldn't stand a chance against such a daytona. Not in performance, power or reliability.

sales killed the daytona, they were making so many different models and the 3rd gen sales never materialized.

I know who has that motor from the Daytona. It has been in the hands of Chrysler engineers over the years, sitting in pieces on a shelf. It recently changed hands though. And the current owner intends to put it in one of his cars. You will see it at SDAC someday probably.

I think some miniturization may have taken place for current models. But I do know they were still in use as recently as 3-4 years ago.

No. Marc Musial's IROC looks very similar to that car though. I think it was Marc's at SDAC 12. For sure Marc's was at SDAC 11 in Ontario.

I'm not sure if the actual car from the article is long gone (crushed) or not. Seems I was told the guy that had the engine for many years has the car also, but I am not sure.

Yeah that car was deffinately ahead of its time. How many years later did Honda and Toyota start using it? I think they were the first to mass produce cars with variable timing.

I'm sure a lot of it came to costs. With declining sales and the IROC R/T already stickering at $20K when most cars were under $15K at the time. How much more were they going to get for this beast? I've heard of R/T's sitting on lots for some time after 93, wonder how long these would have been around. Sure would have loved to have one though!

Who ever has that engine, would be nice to see the VVT setup.

Still can't figure out how it ran with that super low compression?

Whats wrong with 7:1? its theoretically higher with boost, and the cam phaser can alter cylinder pressure...

Well boost is great but off boost will be soggy.

What I think JT is saying is that by changing the cam phasing, you could bring up the cranking compression, kinda like a 12:1 engine with a huge cam, they never actually "see" the 12:1 until higher RPM, only in reverse here...

    Clear as Mud, right?
