How many guys here leave out that one bastard starter bolt on their cars? I'm considering leaving it out for ease of future work. Surely guys have done it but is that bolt really necessary on these cars?
Thanks.

Which bolt are you referring to? There's three on the bellhousing, and one on the back of the block on the older models with the really big fat starter.

Once you take it out, Wire brush it down, put a die around it and coat it with anti seze....i've NEVER had a problem after i did that.
I leave it out too. You don't need it.
I've left them out before, doesn't make much difference.
Put a newer starter in it and just drill out the threads so you can put in the bolts and stud from the trans side, good time to make the wires longer

I always put it back in, having someone on the top side to help guide it in place makes it a lot easier.

That settles it. I'm just gonna leave it out.
I have always been able to install all three from the top of the engine bay. The back bottom bolt is the hardest, but you can get it in from the top.
yea you can get it from the top. The car's usually up in the air anyway to get the starter wires so I just lay under the car and put it in.
I use all 3, having the top 2 as studs makes it cake.
+3 gooping up the lower bolt so its super slippery and also use a regular universal socket, cake +2,

Guess I never had that much trouble with it . . .
I thought for sure mine was cross threaded. It was a MOFO to get out! With how tight the thing was I wasn't really able to use a swivel because of the amount of torque I had to apply plus the oil drain tube in the block making straight on access impossible.
a 3 foot extension and a 15mm swivel head is what I use.
