    T3 Teardown & Re-build

I thought i'd start this thread as a possible project log but i thought i'd post it in this section until the project really takes off. This will document the teardown of a complete T3 powertrain i picked up a few months ago out of a 91 Spirit R/T that was sitting for over a decade. Not sure my end plans as of yet but planning a high hp T3 build for "something" down the road. I started to tear into it to see what was left and here's what i've found so far:

Intermediate Shaft Failure on the Gear and the Bushing is toast:

Some light rust on the bores but overall not too bad:

The really bad part... #3 Main bearing spun... the end result of the failed intermediate shaft:

Head looks reasonable so far, original core plugs and no evidence of cracking... yet...

So now trying to decide the next steps for this re-build. Not sure if this block is salvageable or not. The damage to the #3 main journal and cap is pretty bad. What are the largest oversize bearings available? Think this is salvageable?

My second option is a spare +0.020" bore 8V common block i have but that would render my sets of stock T3 pistons useless and i'd have to further modify for the T3 stuff. I guess i'll see what the machine shop says about the mains first.

    Any opinions/comments welcome!

With a line bore and hone that block might have a chance.
The vendors list bearings up to 0.20 undersized for rods and mains.

What does the thrust surface on the crank look like? if damaged, its junk.

    Spinning a thrust bearing, impressive.

Find a standard bore 8 valve block and then you can reuse the pistons.

Its possible that block is reusable but it could cost some bucks. Looks like the sides of the bearing area are damaged too.

I have a STD bore T3 block listed for sale in my engine parts thread. It just needs half a bolt hole welded back on. Pic is in post #18

It doesnt look too good although i'm not too sure what constitutes "damaged"... I'm going to look at the other forged crank i have and compare how bad it really is.

    I'll get some pics too...

Wow more bad news... Started into the head yesterday... a couple cam lobes looking pretty rough due to running with no oil lol...

The bearing surfaces look good as does the line bore in the head luckily.

    So is this repairable ??

That cam is totally repairable, good candidate for a stage 1 or more grind,

That's what I'll be doing.... why buy used or pricey NS1 when you can get a bit of a performance gain with some re-conned S1 cams.

    Re: T3 Teardown & Re-build

I'm currently in the process of tearing down and rebuilding a TIII as well.

Just wondering if anyone has a copy of the TIII supplement repair manual available? Would be very handy when it comes time to put this back together. If not, then maybe a bolt torque spec sheet?
